Direct injection engine. Never touches the valve. That's why the valve get gummy.

That is a very serious issue. We have the Volkswagen 2.0 TSI engine running on our convertible golf GTI also known as the Volkswagen Eos. We've heard so many horror stories about totally gunked up intake valves. Those engines are really expensive to replace and keep. I bought the OCC right after I bought the car, is the OCC winning on the Prius?

No, the Gen3 (Nor is the Gen 4 for that matter) Prius engine is NOT direct injection, it is port injection. The intake tract may be oily and cruddy, but that is not the fault of the injection system (I would say it has more to do with the sub-optimal PCV valve placement, high levels of EGR, and possibly Atkinson cycle operation itself). The intake valve itself is practically the only part of the intake tract that IS clean, thanks to the fuel injector blasting it constantly.

Toyota is however on the leading edge of solving some of the drawbacks of direct injection with their D4-S system which combines multi-port and direct gasoline injection, which should prevent/minimize/slow down the formation of the hard carbon fouling in the intake manifold which typically requires walnut shell blasting or combustion via torch to be removed.

I am particularly impressed with the MPG results Toyota is advertising on the 2019 Rav4 Hybrid by using the 2.5L Atkinson engine with D4-S and I suspect that they may go to a similar setup for the next generation of Prius. I would expect EPA mileage in the 60-65 range if/when they do this.

In this video Wix and NAPA Gold (claimed to be by the same manufacturer) are rated best -- and I think I even saw a NAPA Platinum on their Web site:

BTW, people claim that the more expensive Fram filters are OK.

When I was still using the cartridge filters I always used the Wix XP series filter because it was 100% synthetic media and seemed to be constructed well enough to get the job done on extended OCI's. I've since switched to the spin-on filter setup and am currently using a Purolator Boss and plan to try the Fram Ultra Guard series next, based on favorable opinions of seemingly knowledgeable users on BITOG. I try not to get too far down the oil/filter wars rabbit hole and try to go by measured filtration numbers or other concrete data where possible, but I shied away from the Mobil1 cartridge filters because IIRC they were advertising it as a synthetic blend media, without stating percentages of what's cellulose and what's synthetic and ergo could be 99/1 for all we know. I would recommend the Wix XP cartridge filters as a replacement for the M1 based on that criteria, since unfortunately they tend not to publish the actual filter performance numbers for passengar car filters like they do for heavy duty diesel applications. It was a lot easier to decipher what the actual 'best' oil and fuel filters for my old Dodge/Cummins pickup was based on filtration efficiency at a certain micron level because the filter manufacturers actually published these numbers, and for each filter part number, not just one test figure for a single Wix XP filter for example that may not really have that much in common with the specific filter in your application. I wish this practice would carry over to the passenger car world, but I doubt that will ever happen.

I think his post of external links to his own website is long gone. there is a few more on the forums which people will pick up and report abuse in time.

He was a really bad cookie, if you guys knew what he wrote to me by email it will make you cringe.
Bad business and bad way of doing things, the manufacture and I have been on the phone for hours talking about what he was doing and how we are going to make him stop. .
He knew about our enthusiasm and hard work. From us he copied a lot of things from website to product description all in the shadows, even went as far as to copy word by word the installation guide we made for members. I have copies of it saved in my computer at the office.
Thank you so much Montgomery you are a real hero, I cant believe he even tried calling us counterfeits and claiming he owned the patent. It was really getting out of hand. I am glade the admins stepped in and took action. We are asking for everyone help! Who sees him on other web forums doing this again contact us immediately so we may contact the website owner of the situation.

I think he made a bad moral decision to go around us from the start, now he has all this cost from the third party acquisition which he will off load onto victim buyers at $170 something per part... This really makes us upset because the product was meant for everyone to enjoy, not to segregate car owners into skeptics and undesirables. Everyone has the right to know what they are buying before they make the decision.

I really hope Hybrid Pitstop comes around and resume communications with us, they have such a good reputation as I was told, its upsetting to see that all thrown away by this situation. I was going to visit HPS this September after some deals scheduled in Canada and USA east.

Till this date no apology from Tommy for copying and deceiving, we will remember him, like "The North Remembers"

I had to go to Home Depot a grand total of three times because I kept running out of paint but I think it was worth it.

People always wonder why it is expensive to start up a business. Insurance and Attorney needs are the main reason. Then theres copywriting, copying, etc. Hopefully, the whole thing pans out. Hopefully Tommy can see the light.

As for the bullet, I have seen others in Priuschat with my model car install it. Seems to be a difference in pick up. On our cars, we have a power mode button. I wonder if the power mode makes my stock solenoid act like the red bullet. That is my main question. Obviously, the red bullet has different configurations than stock, but, what I really want to know is if when one has the red bullet, and selects the power mode, does this increase exceleration even more?

I too am intrigued by the Red Bullet, and would be more inclined to try it if I could get the VVT related PIDs to work correctly in Torque Pro so I could compare it to stock, but so far, all 3 of the VVT related PIDs all show 0.00 all the time in my car.

I was thinking about the same thing. With the stock solenoid and putting the car in power mode, the car feels alive.
But I think with RB is a little different. I can 100% guarantee that the car does not feel like it’s in power mode when it’s not with the RB installed.
When you are normally cruising at 35-40MPH and you step on the pedal, it’ll feel like the car does want to get up and go.
I’ve done a drag race with my dads Prius lol but I want to do it again as see what happens this time haha :D

Hi Montgomery, thank you for your support!

The power mode on the Pruis 1.8 L will make the throttle more sensitive then the normal mode. With a higher rate of throttle response sent to the engine you would benefit from the Red Bullet by having the capability of a higher rate to modulate the valve position thus making a difference vs the slower OEM. The way to describe it is; valves are not always trying to play catch up no more on RB with the situational condition of the engine as if they were with OEM solenoid. It will be able to match engine demands thus giving you better mating with the engines demand for air and fuel.
Picking up my wife and kids from the airport! I have not seen them is 6 months!
I think sometimes its more then money which is the price we pay for starting a business. Family always suffer!

The above explanation needs a little grammar fix! I am just a bit too excited and have to dash for the flowers and teddy bear for my kid!
I will try to smooth the writing out when I get a chance!!

Does this help improve fuel mileage?

    Hi ASRDogman,
From what I have been able to understand, yes, as long as you drive like you did prior to the installation of red bullet.
The red bullet gets you to the pulse-glide momentum with less effort on the motor. Max has all the details on this.

In a word YES. To get the most performance out of the Red Bullet you will want to be in the PWR mode. When driving for economy use the normal mode.
