what have you done with rear-infant seats?

Just got my Prius and my new baby. Problem is, when I read the instructions to put in a rear-facing infant seat, it says do not install in front of a seat with a drop down arm rest. But the safest place is in the middle.

What have you guys done with your babies? Any way to secure the arm rest?

I'm not going to worry about it. I may take the armrest out. (Baby will be here next month!)

I have no idea why it says that--I'm thinking it might be to prevent one of those hard arm rests from being shoved forward (or rather the carseat back into) the armrest and skewering the baby.

I don't think the soft "fits inside the seat" type would be a risk. And if you're using the LATCH system the middle is just as secure and clearly the safest place...I put my baby there.

    Hmmm....

The fear seems to be that the arm rest would come down on the baby in an accident, since they are rear-facing.

    Anyone secure the arm rest?

Also, how do you put the LATCH system in if it is rear-facing?

Once the seat is in it will hold the arm rest up--the base alone does that.

On the base itself when installed hooking into the LATCH is very self evident. Instructions should come with the seat. You simply put the base down as you would if using the seat belt, move the LATCH strap to the proper position and lock it in.

Well there is the short story " A Modest Proposal".
PS one of my English teachers read that and several other short stories on Halloween Day when I was in High School and obviously have never forgotten it. Best day in English class I ever had. She was a great oral reader and teacher.
