what if no gas

    Here's an interesting question for techies and anyone wondering what if.
    What if you should run out of gas in the PRIUS? Would you still have elec-
    tric motor power that would allow temporary or shot distance power till you could get to the next gas station, or would the drive system shut down or would the Synergy System be damaged in this event? :roll:

    Yes, if you run out of gas, you can limp the car along in electric mode until the battery gets too low.

    Toyota recommends never doing this, if at all possible - deep discharge of the battery could possibly shorten it's lifespan.

    That said, a few owners have run out of gas trying to push the gas tank to the limits, and havn't had any problems after refueling.

    I believe they said they were limited to around 35mph in EV mode, and if the battery was almost topped-up, they could get between 1 and 2 miles.
