In another thread I was talking about the cost of a new Prius compared to the cost of a Corolla sedan in each market around the world. This isn't comparing the Prius in any way to the Corolla just comparing the price of Prius using an internationally similar car as a comparison. Unfortunately this doesn't take into account the different trim levels because I use the cheapest 1.8 litre 4 door sedan in each market.

Here is how it works for Australia

A base Prius has an RRP of $37,400
A base model Corolla 1.8L sedan is $21,740
    So the maths

    $37,400
    $21,740 = 1.72 Corollas

So a base model Prius in Australia costs 1.72 Corollas, what is a base model Prius worth where you live?

Please only use recomended prices from Toyota not special deals, this keeps it simple. Also I would expect if the Corolla includes tax so does the Prius so this comparison is fair.

From the other thread I mentioned

    For New Zealand
    I use the basest sedan.
$33,990 RRP for a Corolla GX sedan
$46,490 RRP for a base Prius
A Prius costs 1.37 Corollas in New Zealand, so Prius is cheap in NZ!!

    And for the UK
Verso = 14,890 (I pick the Verso as it is a 1.8 litre engine like Corolla.)
    Prius = 17,870
Prius = 1.20 Verso, the cheapest Prius so far.

Shouldn't you be comparing it to loaves of bread or something else that is a real cross territory reference?

How big is a loaf of bread?

What is the tax rate on a loaf of bread? Here 0%, while my car prices includes 10% tax.

When was the last time you thought, should I buy a car or a loaf of bread? Yes, this isn't a comparison of Corolla versus Prius but the same taxes and other influences on the Corolla price also affect the Prius. It's an affordability comparison in each market if you like.
I can get a supermarket brand bread for $1.90 a loaf or I can pay $4.00 for a bakery brand loaf. Corollas are all made by Toyota (who would have thunk it?) so it makes a better comparison.

Do you have a 1.8 litre Toyota sedan on the market in Greece? If not a 4 door hatch? If the Versa is sold there use that.

    Corrola Verso 1.8: 25,600 Euro
    Corrola 2.0 diesel: 25,500 Euro
    Corrola 1.6: 22,370 Euro
    Prius: 26,650 Euro

Too many differences in spec I think.

    Prius: Cdn$27,710
    Corolla CE 1.8 5-spd manual - Cdn$14,865

Keep in mind that we've dropped the price last year because the USD-CAD exchange rate reached parity.
