I have a chance to buy a 2002 Prius in excellent condition with 45K miles on it and the balance of the 100,000 Toyota extended warrantee. What would be a good price to pay for this car? Thanks.

I'm gonna guess $15K to $16K if it's a standard package. More if it's got any additional options.

Good "guess". That's exactly where Kelly's Blue Book puts it in excellent condition.

I'd say that's probably a reasonable price. You might find people want to try to get a bit more considering the demand for them, but much higher than that puts you close to a new Prius.

Can someone remind us where the break point is?

I'd try to find a G2 Prius... 2004-2006 I think. I think that first generation prius to hit the US is just that generation behind in a few ways. Unless the newer generation is at a greater expense than you are able to handle, I'd personally try to find one of those.

Or, hope to find that G1 version at a substantially lower price... 10k maybe... I know it's bluebook and the thing probably gets well over 40mpg... but...

Wow - you have a great memory.

This one is in the hands of a private owner that bought it for a son, but they kept it but wanted blue tooth so they upgraded to and '05 and now are selling the '02. I figure if I can get a good deal it would be nice to have an extra car around.

yeah I do actually but I don't remember everything on this board, usually the senior posters that were here before me. Also your name is unique. If it started with "m" I wouldn't know as there seems to be so many users with "m" as their starting letter.

Makes sense. I mean the Classics are much nimbler than the new ones.
