I'm in the market for a used car. My current one only gets 24 mpg. I drive a lot, generally 83 to 156 miles a day, 5 days a week. I see a 2006 Prius listed by me with the battery replaced at the dealership under warranty mid 2015. What kind of replacement did the dealer do?
I intend to ask the owner and have them ask the dealership if they don't know but a lot of the time sellers can be uninformed and hard to get technical answers out of.

    Prius has two batteries:
    1) 12v $150- 400 battery-4year pro-rated
    2) High voltage $1600-2500 battery-3 years.
Be damned sure both are new, before you buy.
And pay a qualified Prius mechanic about $100 to fully check all the usual used car things.

    welcome!

plug the vin into the toyota owners site and you will get all dealer service. a battery under warranty would get a new battery, but you want paperwork before purchasing.
how many miles on her? there are plenty of other expensive things that can go wrong.

    all the best!(y)

You won't know 100% without checking with the dealership.

Assuming it was a new Hybrid Battery, then 3 years.

If it was a used Hybrid Battery, then I'm not sure.Depends

Yes, I know Kenoarto, I'm asking about the hybrid battery.

Will do Bisco once I get the Vin. It was just posted last night and they havent gotten back to me yet. 175,000 miles.

So then its agreed the dealer would of put a new battery in not a remanufactured one assuming the replacement was done?

On a side note. How does the '04-'09 prius mpg do with hills? I havent fully decided on it yet and do consider a Scion '04-'06 xA or xB or Yaris still an option.

Typical wording of most factory warranties gives them the option of using new OR recondition parts to meet the remaining life of the original warranty or 1 year; whatever is longer. So..... if the battery has a "-84" at the end of the part number on the sticker on the exterior case, then it's a TOYOTA reconditioned (old) battery. There have been only a few reported installations of these and IIRC all in California. If the battery case is any color other than bare metal (bright green, orange, etc), that's a dead ringer sign of an aftermarket repaired battery.

    GOOD LUCK!

Mod 2015 was probably a new pack from Toyota.
But it could have been a third party used one I suppose.
I'd want paperwork or look at pack myself.

Got the Vin. The Toyota Owners Site does show a service with "Hybrid battery assembly" mixed in there but doesn't say anything about it, like checked/ serviced/ replaced, you know.
Gunna go see it and have him call up the dealer so I can be sure it got swapped new. Thanks for the help you guys.
