Given that one of the things they said was they need a "small, jeep like hummer"... that's not so outrageous.

I seem to know of one company (cough, toyota) who seems to have just upsized their small SUVs (toyota)

Read the article again. They're saying the Hummer needs to be downsized. I don't think anyone here disagrees with that. Key sentence:

OK, in a better world they'd do away with the Hummer entirely, but a small one is better than a monster-sized one any day.

Y'know, I can at least respect the H1 for being what it is. It's a true off road, mountain climbing, tree squashing, beast. The H2 and H3 are pickup trucks with a poser Hummer shell, luxury interior and customizable wheel ("They're SPINNIN'!!! They're SPINNIN'!!!).

I'd definately say the hummer has it's place... that place should be far from civilization, however :-p when it comoes to daily commutes and city driving, Hummers should stay in the garage - besides, if you can afford a Hummer, you can afford to get a Prius too.

Does this mean there will be a HYBRID HUMMER in the near future?

I couldn't agree more. And let's keep the Escalades locked up in the garage too while we're at it - there's just something about the people who drive those things that annoys the heck out of me.

Look at it this way - that's probable twice as much as they get now. But what would they call it - a Hummerous?

They could build a really small, two-seater Hummer. On the outside it would be an exact scaled-down replica of the big ones. It would be like one of those obnoxious small dogs that bark constantly and show their teeth, but which you could step on and squash. It would appeal to men who need to compensate for their anatomical inadequacies but who cannot afford an H2. It would be the size and weight of a Carmen Ghia, it would have the power and acceleration of a Yugo, it would get 20 mpg, and it would cost as much as a fully-loaded Civic. It would have a three-cylinder engine to make it shake and rattle a lot, and it would be marketed as "small but ferocious." Due to its small size it would have only a 5-gallon gas tank, so it would go 100 miles from a full tank to dead empty. It would have a bracket on the outside where you could carry a one-liter container of gas, to get you another 5 miles when you run dry.

Why stop there, let's just put all Hummer and Escalade drivers into prison camps and make them build hybrids. Since they drive these types of cars, they must actually be less than human, and so they deserve to be treated like that.

They're nowhere close to the highly evolved state the Prius drivers have attained.

    What a load of bullshit!

Get a life people. Cars are cars. Everyone has a right to drive whatever they want. Sure you have the right to complain, but it only makes you look petty and small-minded.

At least the people I know who drive Hummers and Escalades are nice people.

(not picking on you alone pirateprius, just happend to reply to your post.)

I heard a good joke today...

Q: Why is Hummer discontinuing the H1?

A: Because all of the a** holes already have one!

i highly respect the H1. it's like a fine sports car... just bigger.. even less mpg, and can off road like no other.

Maybe if hummer had the same: fully indipendent suspension, brake disk attached higher in the vehicle (instead of in the wheel well), and the ability to do anything... as their original hummer brother could.... i would aplaud gm for once. great minds and all.. they just don't apply it.

it's the consumers fault for being ill educated on mobility.
