what would you pay for a 2013 Prius 2 with 125k miles? Numbers on KBB, Black Book, etc are all over the place. Mechanic says pay no more than $6k or get a new one.
    Thoughts?

    welcome!
i might pay $7-8,000. depending on ownership, maintenance and condition.
it's easy to say's get a new one' if he wants to loan you the money.

called him. $8500 w/ski rack thrown in. his final offer.

    - clean carfax, well maintained, no accidents, one owner.
    - tiny ding in one door, some scratching on a rear tinted window. (tints were professionally done).

I'd pass. Even with clean carfax it's a low level Prius with a lot of mileage. That's just my opinion...

I heard more miles is better. New to hybrids. A bit confusing.

miles are better than years, but not better than lower miles.

the thing is, a good price is the best price you can find. cali is an expensive prius market. if $8,500. is the best deal you can find, go for it!(y)

Listed here, kbb for a '13 in Sausalito in very good condition has the car at a ballpark price of $7.7k- with a range being from $6.6k-$8.1k. Therefore, I'd pass. I'd also look for a model that has lower miles that can take advantage of California's 10/150k hybrid/traction warranty.

This is crazy. Higher miles only gives you better price, nothing else better

    What did you decide, Andy?

Here in CT and having just shopped for one. That's not a terrible deal but unless pressed, I would wait for a better deal.

    Just my .27 cents. (inflation)

I went for it. As I look at more Craigslist ads, I could have saved a $1000 if I slowed down and looked around more. If she turns out to be reliable then I am ok with the extra price. Last car was from Carmax and that was about 4k above value so I am doing better. There were a couple of way better cars with way better prices but either a neighbor got it first or someone from Craigslist replied in a millisecond and was first in line.

Awesome Andy. Best of luck. They really are great cars!

I drive one for a living and would never go back to a regular car. Aside from the savings, they are just fun to drive and comfortable cars. I do about 20 miles a day and love em.

Carol's brother says I should sell em, lol.

Also, I did the same thing a wek or 2 ago. Bought one with out shopping. Was 5k+ with nothing extra. Just got annoyed with the process. And its a 2010 with 128K miles.

Only getting 44MPG, too. But a joy to drive.

I think the "more miles" mythology exists because of the idea that keeping the hybrid system-HV Battery "active" is better than letting it sit long periods.
But I agree it's not valid logic to apply to overall purchase.
The Prius isn't the Benjamin Button of the automotive world. For the most part, less miles like with any vehicle is preferable.

Good points. The way I see it, it's more about very low miles not necessarily being a good thing with a Prius, because of the traction battery. That really changed my buying strategy when shopping for a Prius, compared to an ICE vehicle.
