What's the lowest FM frequency that a Prius can tune in?

    everyone. I'm hopefully a soon-to-be Prius owner, and I use the iTrip in my current car. The iTrip comes with a set of frequencies that it can broadcast on (87.9-107.9, I believe), but none of those are "clean" in my area. I downloaded the 87.5 and 87.7 frequency files off the iTrip web site, and found that they work great. As I understand it, these two are outside of the standard frequencies that the FCC assigns, so they're almost always clear. In my current car, my radio goes down to 87.5, but in my wife's car, the radio only goes down to 87.7. I've seen others that only go down to 87.9. All that to ask this: does the radio in the Prius tune FM stations as low as 87.5 or 87.7? If not, I'll probably need to pick up a cassette adapter.

    Phil, if you go to the manufacturer of the iTrip website, you'll find a little program (iTrip Station Finder) there which I've found helpful. I live in the NYC area and it is very difficult to get a "good" iTrip frequency. The program lets you input your zipcode and then gives a list of "clean" frequencies. Try it. You'll then need to "tune" your iTrip. Directions for that are on the website, too.

    Yeah, I've used the program that you mentioned, but I found their recommendations to be waaaay off. I actually get great results on the 87.5 and 87.7 frequencies in my current car, so I'm just curious about whether the Prius can tune stations that low.

    I checked this out on my brand new Prius (took delivery on Friday), and it looks like it goes down to 87.7.

    i think it might depend on the area you are in. if you have a powerful signal at 88 Mhz it might be a problem

    TV Channel 6 is from 82-88 Mhz; in particular, the audio is at 87.75, so if you drive to an area with a station on Channel 6, you won't be able to use 87.5 or 87.7 for your iTrip.

    umm i think you can.. the total bandwidth for audio is only about 30 khz (we can only hear about 14-16 k of that) so if audio starts at 87.75 mhz that would make its bandwidth 87.750 to 87.780

    Yes, but part of the 82-88 band is video. Granted, the video is AM modulated, but still can cause interference and noise if an FM radio is tuned into it. Haven't you ever heard 60hz refresh on a badly tuned radio?
