When, a plug in model from Toyota?

That is the question.

They've said no LiI or plug in for the 2009 redesign. But with the Volt possibly coming out, there's no telling if they're planning on either or both options and are just keeping mum so it's a big surprise (and selling point.)

I hope they do it enough in advance so I can get a premium on my HOV stickers when I trade my current 2005 in for a LiI plug in Prius.

 

Or perhaps Toyota knows Chevy won't get the volt out in any reasonable timeframe. One report said that the Volt depends on batteries not yet ready for mass-production.

Dulcimer, why do you need to know? Or is it just random curiosity?

Trust me, Toyota is not going to leak any info like this, especially with the US auto makers (finally) thinking about competing.

I don't think that even Toyota knows when it will be available in the US. Japan may be a different story.

 

I would expect within the next 5 years. If not, I'll be disappointed.

But I thought the 2009 Prius was supposed to have lithium batteries, at least.

I don't care anymore, though, because in a week or three I'll be driving my new Zap Xebra.
