After filling up my new 08 Prius for the 3rd or 4th time it finally dawned on me that the mpg's on the consumption display do not reset when the miles reset. So now it seems the mpg's displayed is from the beginning since the car was new. When did this change happen. I have to reread the manual but will the mpg reset if you hit the reset button or will just the miles reset?

The change happened either in '06 or '07. I think it was '06.

If you hit the reset button both miles and MPG will reset to zero on your MFD. If you fill up more than 3 gallons of fuel the miles will automatically reset to zero on the MFD. I have an 07 model and it was this way on them - not sure what year it started to work this way.

    Enjoy your new car :)

    Hi paprius...,

It happened in the 2006 model year. My early 2006 has this action.

There have been a few people who have had service work on their cars that have complained about poor mileage. Only to find they have been averaging their mileage since the car was new, including the idle time in the shop for service work. Once they reset, they are amazed at the low 50's mpg they are getting after having it in the mid 30's.

Still, though, they really need a "Lifetime MPG" calculation somewhere. At least for the braggarts like Evan or hobbit.

I have an 07, and it takes a re-fill of 10+ gallons for an automatic reset. Else, you need to just push the "reset" icon on the MFD.

    B) Yep, it was 2006 when this changed. the '06 does reset if 3 or more gallons are added, but only miles, not mileage. B)

we have a 2007 Prius pkg #2 puchased April 2007. Our MPG does not reset. However, if "RESET" is pushed, all goes to '0', ie, miles and mpg will become 0

On the screen where your total consumption and milage is displayed on the bottom of the bar graph screen. The button is on the bottom right of the touch screen.

i usually fill up with 7-8 gallons and mine has never reset. i suspect it would take closer to 9.5.

Your miles driven (as shown on the MFD screen) don't reset to zero with the fill up of 7-8 gallons?

My miles have reset every time I filled up. Sometimes as little as six gallons. Only once did I not fill up completely (3/4 tank) and it still reset the miles.

Ideally, I'd like to see quite a few more MPG calculators:

    1. Current Tank (auto-reset)
    2. Last week / month / 3 months (for seasonal) / year / lifetime
    3. User-specified, at least 2-3 sets (for road trips, tire changes, etc)

I think we read it correctly. I'll try it tomorrow or this weekend, since I'm due for a refill and in times past it doesn't seem to reset. I had read that it would reset, so I always thought maybe I wasn't patient enough, as I don't want to keep the last tank's mileage on it.

I have an '06 pkg 1 built in Jan or Feb. 2006. I'm pretty sure both mileage (mpg) and miles on the energy consumption screen do not auto reset on fill-up. I never put in more than 9.5 gallons, usually about 8 gallons, always more than 3.

A lifetime option sure would be nice - my computed lifetime is 49.99 right now, may finally reach 50.0 on this fill?.
