My wife drove my Prius Plug-in while away and she lost the keys. But the car will still start and stop (Power on and off). So the keys must be inside the car somewhere, right? I can drive from home, switch it off, and it will start again. I've looked everywhere I can think of -- in & under the seats, I took the glovebox out, removed the rear seat... no luck. Any ideas where set of keys can lose themselves inside a 2012 Prius?

    Thanks!

Did she leave a coat or some other clothing with pockets and a fob inside?

Do you have a second fob? If so, try to use it to lock the car remotely from outside. If it refuses to lock, then the first fob is still inside.

No. If I try to lock the door, it won't let me; it reports that the key is detected in vehicle.
She'd put her keys in the console and noticed them missing when she'd returned home. She was driving with my 11 year-old daughter, who's disabled and does not speak. She could have put those keys most anywhere.

Your Daughter did a good Job! Could she have got in the back and put the fob under our little storage area in the rear by the big battery? Under the floor.

One thought: The fob should be blinking its tiny red LED while its in the vehicle. Go out when its as dark as possible and look for the light?

Edit: I just checked mine and it flashes once every 5 seconds while its in communication with the car.

A lot of times people drop or place the keys down while loading and unloading cargo in the back. I know, I've done it before. Also, the area down the sides of the seats is a good place to misplace items. Take a good flashlight and look under the seats along the seat rails. I thought I had lost my iTouch until after 6 months I found it in the back storage pockets of the seats. Good luck... and be sure to let us know where they turn up.

    Solved!
They fell between the front console and the driver's set. In the Plug-in Prius, there's a toolbox beneath the driver's seat which has a deceptively wide lip. Here's a photo. The entire keychain, with three fobs, was hidden along the left edge of the storage box in this photo.

^^^If you lose your pants you probably have bigger problems than lost keys.

This thread made me laugh, thanks for sharing.
