Where is the dash beeper located? I wish to remove it.

I have already disabled the annoying dash beep from beeping when I am in reverse and dont have my belt on, but I still find it very annoying that it beeps 4 times if I start the car up before having my seatbelt on. I know a deaf guy with a prius. He's FINE. I wish to either remove or muffle this annoying beeper.

Does anyone know how I can access this beeper? I will most likely just tape a stuffed walrus to it.

I found this to take apart the dash- but I believe the beeper is buried closer to the windshield. Any help finding instructions further disassembling the dash (or a permanent beep hack) would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

If you search, you should be able to find the chicken dance procedure that allows you to disable the seat belt buzzer. I haven't tried it, but I have seen the instructions somewhere here. You could also do it with Techstream, but I assume you don't have that tool.

It does not beep 4 times if you don't have your seat belt on. It beeps 4 times if you try to move it to "D", "R" or "B" before it is "READY".

    hope this helps

you can actually reach up, if you have long thin arms and fingers, from behind the glove box, and feel the beeper, way over behind the mfd/head unit. it's just a plug in, so if you can grasp it, you can pull it out. the only problem is, you have to pull up, and to the left, after reaching from down and to the right.

Thanks All. I have already done the programming work-around that minimizes beeps. However, it still beeps 4 times when I start the car without my seat belt on.

Dolj- I have confirmed that my car is, in fact beeping due to the seatbelt not being on, and not for putting it in gear as you suggested. Can you check again that you car doesn't beep when you start it with the seatbelt off (and leave the gear shifter alone)? If your car is doing something completely different than mine, this is a good sign and suggests that it may be a programming issue.

Bisco- thanks for the info. This seems to be the route I am going to need to go. I pulled the glove box out and it kinda reminded me of a cartoon where they open the door and there is another locked door behind it. I couldn't get more than a finger into anything, and could not see where the beeper is located. Can you share any more information about the location of this? I will need to take some things apart, and I would love to see something online before I dig in. What has your experience been here? Have you been up in there, or read about it somewhere?

    Thanks again, everyone.

i must have read it. perhaps the gen III has more clearance? unless they disconnected the filter housing, if that's possible.

I can confirm there is no beeping due to the seat belt not being fastened on startup. I most often start my car then put my seltbelt on--no beeps. I can start the car and even start driving a short distance before the seat belt warning starts beeping. This is constant slow beeping followed by a more urgent fast beeping if it is ignored. Fastening the seatbelt stops the beeping.

I strongly suggest there is another reason that you are getting the 4 beeps warning as this is a warning of something wrong.

I would also discourage you from trying "fix" by just removing the beeper, but rather actually diagnose what the fault is that is the cause and eliminate that.

    hope this helps

Thanks, Dolj The reason our cars are acting differently is because I did the programming trick that stops the behavior you're describing. My car no longer beeps if a passenger, or myself does not have a seatbelt on. It used to do the 2 stage annoying dance you described. With the programming adjustment it just does the 4 beeps when I start the car up. If the belt is on, it doesnt do it. If I put the belt on in the middle of the 4 beeps, it immediately stops.

If I can muffle the beeper, I may just do that. For now, if anyone can help me with the steps involved to access that beeper, please enlighten me.

    Thanks all!

Use your seat belt. It's not about how YOU drive but about all the other idiots out there that might run into you some day.

Ignore the 4 beeps and GO.

Can anyone else post a more worthless, asinine and non responsive reply than Easy Rider 2?

    Anybody?

I didnt say I dont use my belt. I didnt say the design serves no purpose. I asked in help to silence the beeps or locate the beeper.

    You asked for advice.
You got the best advice that I have to offer.
And it looks like nobody else has anything better to offer.

If you latch the belt BEFORE you start the car, the beeper WILL be disabled.
    Problem solved.

P.S. You don't always get the responses that you expect on social media sites.
If you can't deal with that, maybe it is best that you not participate at all.

Your "best" "advice" is that I give up on trying to get the information I have asked for help to find. That is not helpful. I can give up without you. It will be when I've exhausted my efforts. Not because you've put 2 seconds of thought into it and think I should give up now. You admittedly have absolutely nothing to contribute to my post.

It is a touch condescending for you to lecture me on wearing my seat belt when I have not stated I don't wear it, or argued that I shouldn't. I have specifically stated, this is in regards to what happens before I put the belt on. I am asking if anyone can help me access the beeper. Can you? No? Then don't post anything. You don't care about the beeping in my car? Good, move on with your life. You are under no obligation to reply.

Has any found the location of the beeper in the gen 2? I've removed the head unit and still wasn't able to find the beeper. How far into the dash is this thing?
