Hi: My Prius is about to come off warranty and I am considering a 8/125,000 platinum warranty. Where is the best place to buy one? Does Prius Chat offer one. Any thoughts on ex warranties?

Don't buy one. All extended warranties are a waste of money.

I know Toyota's are bullet proof, but I was at my dealer I have been buying cars for the past 20 years, and they saved me 700 from the other dealer I went to, I couldn't pass the offer of a Platinum Toyota warranty for 6/75K for 950.

So, in gratitude for having saved you $700, you gave him a $950 tip. Very generous of you :_>

Yeah I guess, but it's been a dealership I have dealt with for 20 years. In fact I had a warranty on a used 2002 Dodge Dakota that I bought from them and the CPU gave out near the end of the extended warranty. When they contacted the claims (aftermarket) they said my warranty had run out. I called the finance manager at the dealership and he contacted that company and got me covered. This was 3 years after the sale and it was a different finance manager. At least this one is a Toyota warranty, won't buy aftermarket anymore, and from looking at the prices I did get a good deal.

You will almost certainly never get back more than $500 in claims under the warranty, and most likely nothing at all.

    . . . . . . Put another way . . . ALL insurance is "a waste" . . . until you need it
    ;)
In our case, the extended warranty paid for itself MORE than 2X over. Your results may varry. It's an odds game. Why else is Vegas still in business.

oh . . . and Welcome to PC!

And who makes the money in Vegas? The house; and every now and then some sucker, just often enough to keep the rest of the suckers coming in.

One should buy insurance only when one can't self-insure. Most people can't afford to build a new house out of pocket. Someone who can't afford a possible $500 repair on a car probably can't afford the car in the first place. It certainly makes no sense to spend $1000 to insure against the possibility.

Well I have to say Thanks! You made me think, since I'm picking it up today I had a chance to think about the warranty, I'm not going to purchase it now. The Prius is pretty much bullet proof anyway.
