Daniel's off hiking in the mountains. Very few sharks, but maybe a few bears. Is there a bear week?

It's a week of films about these murderous creatures on the Discovery Channel. There are lots of interviews with people missing various limbs and who tell their stories of being torn asunder, usually a retelling of the stoy of the USS Indianapolis, lisying of the most dangerous sharks and most dangerous areas of our shark filled oceans.

There's also a lot of sciency stuff about migration patterns and behavior and even some info from the pro-shark lobby.

Ewww, just announced...a Bull Shark attack is caught live on camera.

When I just want to be entertained, that sciency stuff tends to ruin it. But a few drinks later, all is well ....

I get the shivers just thinking about it. Horrible how they can ruin what should be a fine beverage

Nice place, folks are friendly there. At least they were every time Yours Truly drove through

I've always wanted a pet cougar. I'm sure it would take care of those pesky neighbor kids

I tempted fate and celebrated shark week with a swim in the 'red triangle' yesterday. Nary a nibble.

I don't think it would matter much. If I remember correctly, Daniel doesn't have a TV.

I suppose this thread is as good a place as any to announce my return from two weeks of hiking in B.C., Canada. It was fabulous. The weather was mostly perfect, though my departure yesterday was delayed for three hours by fog, so I stayed overnight half way and got home today. (And when the helicopter finally arrived we flew around for an extra 15 minutes looking for a clear path back out.)

I was not aware of "shark week." But anyway, everybody knows all those alleged shark attacks are actually bunny attacks, but the victims are too embarrassed to admit it, so they claim it was sharks.

Mostly the hiking was uneventful. The "event" was being there, and it's fabulous, but nothing interesting to report, except that I slipped on a rock while trying to cross a stream, and went bump on my hip, making a nasty black-and-blue mark later, and then rolling into the water and getting soaked. Sadly, I saw no bears this time. But I was fortunate that I had no bunny encounters. I saw no large animals, though a chipmunk tried to sneak up and steal my guide's lunch while she was off answering the call of nature, but I fearlessly chased it away.

I'm home for a week and a half, and then I have another week of hiking at Waterton park, which is in Alberta, just across the border from Glacier National park in Montana.

And I like non-alcoholic beer. I drank one almost every day I was at the lodge.

You were lucky. Bull sharks sometimes swim uipstream into fresh water. If one had been around the noise could have been your end.

Welcome back to safe dry land.
