I am shopping for front brake pads for my 2006 Prius with 211k miles. Front brake pads have a few thousand more miles before scrappers/attention-getters start scrapping the rotor (they were checked yesterday for free at the local Monro auto shop). I am looking to buy Toyota brake pads. However, I did some research and I am finding three different Toyota part numbers for my 2006 Prius (AKA Gen2). One set of pads (which I have identified as "a" sells for about $79). While the other two part numbers sell for about $38 each. Pictures of the various brake pad sets indicate that all pad sets include anti-rattle clips. The three part numbers follow: a.) P/N: 04465-47050 (highest price pads with low price online at dealer of $73 before S&H and on ebay for $79 including S&H); b.) P/N: 04465-AZ014-TM (same price as "c" pads with low price online at dealer of $38 before S&H and on ebay for $38 including S&H); and c.) P/N: 04465-AZ014 (same price as "b" pads with low price online at dealer of $38). Does anyone know what is the difference between these different pads? What advantages do the 04465-47050 (the "a" pads) give over the cheaper pads (namely, "b" and "c" brake pads)? I am willing to spend more if there is a benefit or advantage. b and c appear to be for the scion xa/xb (04-06), mr2 spyder (00-05), echo (01-05) and gen1 prius (01-03). Keep cross referencing, as those part #s may not fit your application.

Alternatively, when I use the official Toyota website (including, me providing my VIN to the site), I again receive three options for my front brake pads. Same part numbers as above (namely, "a", "b", and "c"). I have attached a snip of the options set forth on the official Toyota website. Yeah, there's no harm in knowing the current/correct part number, but there is this guy sitting twiddling his thumbs at the dealership, and that's his full time job.
I just got back from speaking with the parts manager at the local Toyota dealership. We discussed the following brake pads (which are all listed on their parts website as being suitable for my 2006 Prius): a.) P/N: 04465-47050 (highest price pads with low price online at dealer of $73 before S&H and on ebay for $79 including S&H); b.) P/N: 04465-AZ014-TM (same price as "c" pads with low price online at dealer of $38 before S&H and on ebay for $38 including S&H); and c.) P/N: 04465-AZ122* (same price as "b" pads with low price online at dealer of $38). Toyota parts manager (Mike) explained the following: 1. "a" brake pads are made in Japan by Toyota. 2. "c" brake pads have superceded "b" brake pads (but some NOS still exists). 3. "c" and "b" brake pads are/were made in USA to Toyota specifications by a qualified manufacturer (parts manager's best guess as to manufacturer of "c" was Nippondenso). "b" and "c" are referred to as "Toyota-After-Market" parts within Toyota (despite being sold at Toyota dealer with Toyota packaging). 4. 99% of Prius Gen2 brake jobs done as this Toyota dealership are done with the "c" brake pads. *- in my initial posting, I erroneously list the "c" part number as 04465-AZ014 when it should have been listed as 04465-AZ122.
If you consider to buy aftermarket/third party parts you should be able to get them from Aisin (Japan, 30% owned by Toyota) or Brembo (Italy, Formula 1 brake supplier) for less than 25 bucks, too. (I've bought Brembo pads online for 20.05 € ($21.64)) SM-G950F ?
I'm coming up on the same job shortly and was looking at these, which are your A items. Brake Pads - Toyota (04465-47050) | Toyota Parts I've also seen mention of a "fitting kit" 04947-47010 that runs about $13. Is that something required for doing the front pads?
You should really get that. It's those small shims that are inserted into caliber brackets for pads to ride on. Often old once can be cleaned and reused but new once are much better. If they salt the roads where you drive you need to pull them off and clean the rust there (then apply some caliber grease to slow down the rust) and install the shims so you might as well just put new once on.
