I have a nail in the sidewall of my 2013 Prius toyo proxes a20 p215/45r17 tire. A new one is $250 wow. What is a good affordable replacement ? Thanks

How many miles have you put on them? It's not worth while to have 1 new tire and 3 tires with 25k miles on them

Well just spend some money to buy 4 new tires for $400. Forget replacing 1 tire and another 3 10k miles later. 30k is respectable from a set of oem tires. Time to buy 4 new tires

My Prius ride is terrible. Is there a tire that would improve the ride? I will sacrifice performance for a smoother ride. Thanks

Don't know what you're willing to spend, but it's hard to beat the Michelin ride, IMO. I go with those when I can afford them - usually when they have a rebate offer going on. Everything else is just a compromise on price for me.

Do you know which Michelin tire for the Prius? I have been pro Michelin myself for many years

Personally, I am a fanboy of Discount Tire because they have been so good to me over the years. Their customer service (at least at the two ATL stores I've used) is a model for all other businesses IMO. So, I went to their site, put in 2013 Prius Base and got this.
Make sure you use the proper wheel size/model - I was just guessing.
And, BTW, there is a $70 rebate on a set of 4 Michelins now.

Given the ratings and if money were no object, I'd go with the Defender. Others on this site, especially the hypermilers, might disagree. There are plenty of opinions about tires on this site. That would be mine. Again, if I start to compromise on price, I'd look at the other Michelin brands first, then possibly the Continental Contact.

For my son's used Scion, money IS a very important object, so I'm about to have them put on a set of Milestar MS932s. That's because they are only $62/tire and I've found good ratings on the internet. They don't show up on the DT site, but my store manager says he can get them shipped in. 50K warranty.

The other I was considering was the Barum Bravuris (same low-price reasoning). The ratings are good, but not as good as the Milestars and they are a bit more expensive.

That's not to say that these are recommended for the Prius - only that you have options if you choose to compromise.

I'm leaning towards Michelin Premier A/S. Johnny Zero (member here) reports a bit of a mpg drop with them. Still, good overall choice I think. Check them out on Tirerack.

I was on the same boat as you. I have the same set of tires and one had an unrepairable nail in the sidewall.

I had about the same mileage on my tires and I was not ready to replace all 4. To be on the safe side I replaced two so two on the same axle.

My mpg dropped in the beginning but after a few hundred miles, to my surprise, my mpg is back up and high mpgs for having two toyo proxes oem tires and two cheap non LRR Valera tires.
