Before today I'd never listened under the hood with the car Ready. There's a distinct whine and buzz apparently coming from the inverter, audible only when the engine is not running. Is This Normal? All the coolant tanks are full.

    The inverter does whine.

The coolant pump is very quiet, and the inverter doesn't make
a whole lot of noise when the car isn't moving.
    .
You're most likely hearing the throttle motor on the front of
    the engine.

My 07's Inverter is real loud just sitting in Ready first thing in the morning. Really loud.

It's a hastle that I can't tow a trailer with my Prius or I could fix the whine.

Oddly enough, the electric throttle on my Prius is *very* quiet

However, the electric throttle on my FJ does make a loud whine. I found this out last fall when I decided to clean the throttle body and MAF. I had a neighbor kid keep the gas pedal floored while I sprayed the gunk out of the TB, and it really does make a lot of racket, no matter at full throttle or idle setting

What is the throttle motor doing when the engine is not running?

With my FJ, engine off and key on, the throttle positioner will make a loud whine whether the gas pedal is released or floored. The Prius throttle positioner is almost silent, at least mine is

the buzz sound is likely the brake accumulator pump.

The electric brake boost pump does not run constantly. When you first press the brake pedal, it will make what I consider a "rattle" sound. My FJ also has electric assist brakes, and they make a similar noise

By putting her in the trailer?
I find wearing headphones takes care of all the annoying noises, in the car and the house. :)

    Yes, exactly.

I hate how headphones make my ears sweat.

I don't like that, either, even though we've got nothing like your heat. I quite like the earbuds I have now - they're comfortable, don't fall out easily like the iPod style tend to, and feature very good sound for the price.

Good one Hobbitt! I was under the hood this weekend listening to all the noises and you are absolutely correct it is not my Inverter it is the throttle motor squealing real loud. I always thought that was my Inverter making that squealing. In fact the Inverter is very quiet as you stated. Thank you I stand corrected.
