We get free access to the car pool lanes in CA (if you have the stickers) and wondered who we can call/petition etc to allow hybrids FREE access to the toll roads also.

I use the I-241, I-261 and the I-91 toll roads every single day to and from work (from Riverside to Newport Beach, 55 mile trip each way) and I pay over $120 a month for this.

It would be great if we could travel them for free.

    Any ideas ?

I believe they are toll roads because they are not owned by the state, they were built through private means. So you would have to find the "owners" of each road and petition each of them. Of course, you would have to appeal to their altruism in supporting the fight against Global Warming and the fight against foreign oil. Good luck.

I think this would be great, but seeing how the 241 is the only toll road that even comes close to being profitable, I doubt the toll road agencies would be too eager to give away revenue (esp. the 91).

Oops, i used the road wrongly I guess! Does this apply to FasTrak too? I've used the road as I did HOV lanes.

    Was I in error?

The roads mentioned are all Fastrak roads and all drivers must pay.

I want to not have to pay or at a reduced rate as I drive an Hybrid.

Never gonna happen. Try writing it off as a work expense.

I think we are all living on borrowed time in the HOV. Don't press your luck by asking for more.

Actually with a FasTrak account it is currently only $4.00 (hybrid or not).

Dude- get real. You own a hybrid- good for you. Saving co2 and gas. Getting in on the hOV lane is great and uneccessary. Asking for free tolls because you (and half of america) own a hybrid is bordering on a joke-- smug. Do you also want free car washes? Toll roads are paid for a reason- no matter what car you drive. Why wouldn't you just be satisfied with helping the environment, rather than looking for freebies?

You don't get anything in life without asking for it, its not end of the world stuff.
Just rather save more money, nothing wrong in that.
The enviroment is an issue sure, but not my main issue.

You don't get free car washes?

My dealer told me I would get unlimited free car washes and oil changes when I received his "VIP Card." After a month or so of waiting for it, with a very dirty car by the way, I finally called him and told him to get with it. The card finally came and it said I'd get a car wash "with scheduled maintenance service." I haven't tried out the free oil change yet but the cynic in me tells me there will be about $25 in incidental costs on my bill. You know, oil disposal fee, filter fee, cleaning the plug fee, new washer fee.

Let's ditch this project and go for the free lunch.
