WHY THE PRIUS IS SPECIAL: In a Nutshell

    Last April, while I was in my first month of my long, long, long wait for my Prius, I chanced across an article by Patrick Bedard, a columnist for Car & Driver.

    Simply put, he wrote the best article I've read -- then and now -- for explaining why the Prius is such a major innovation to the automobile industry.

    This is what I'd hand to someone who wants to know why the Prius' technology makes it so special. If they're glazed with buzzwords and technical malaise, this is a great tonic.

    It's written by an "old car guy", but one who's really impressed with the Prius. And he explains, in general motorist-enthusiast terms, why he's so impressed.

    Anyway, the article is now available online. Rather than copy a section of it, I'll just point you to it -- I think it should be eaten and digested whole.

    For anyone who asks you, "What's the big deal" about a Prius, I'd hand him/her this article.
