My wife likes my 2006 Prius so much she wants to get one for herself. Yesterday she got a price on a 2007 HG Package 2 from Morristown Toyota (NJ) for a blue one - $23,350. The salesman claimed the car cost them $22,500 and that he would be getting $850 profit. Is this a good/reasonable deal?

In CA, prices are more like $200-$500 over invoice. We actually got an offer at invoice in late February. Also, the claimed invoice price looks a little high for a package 2. Tax rebate goes down in April so that may affect sales late this month. Try going to edmunds.com to see what comparable prices in your area look like.

Hello Seagull: While I can't comment on price as I purchased my Prius a few years ago, I can tell you my experience has been nothing short of amazing. It was the best purchase I ever made. If you get an 'all systems go' and purchase I hope your family enjoys their car as much as I do. BTW I come from a long line of ancestors from Summit, although I moved to CA about 30 years ago. Last time I was there it reminded me of driving through an emerald it was so green.

    Hi Seagull,
We recently purchased 2-pkg #2 cars. Paid 22k each at two different dealers.
22K is the invoice according to edmunds.com and this includes the $650 delivery chg.. The actual "printed" invoice in the LA area is 22.3.
Print out the edmunds #s and call around. If there is a Miller Toyota in your area try there.
You should be very close to, possibly lower than, $22K.

PS. My wife was raised in Chatham (Rolling Hill Dr.), we were also married there.

Read through www.carbuyingtips.com and verify the fees at http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/ (the official web site) or http://www.dmv.org/nj-new-jersey/departmen...or-vehicles.php (which seems to be a good resource). Don't be in a rush because $787.50 of the tax credit (which you may not get) expires next week. Good luck.

We bought one yesterday in Northern California for $22,000, 2007 Classic Silver, Package #2. We used Edmunds and a few sites to help guide us on pricing. Hope that helps.
