The wife used a concrete column at a parking garage to erase the passenger side view mirror from our 2006 Prius...need to replace it. I've found a used mirror, from the same year & same color as the car, but it is a heated mirror. Our Prius does not have that feature. I've also found a black mirror which, does not have the heating feature so it is an option. The cost isn't an issue for either, each are less than $75 which is fine with me. So the issue is.... if I purchase the red mirror...with the heating feature....is that a safety issue? Will the plug at the end of the mirror be compatible with what is in the car right now? Bottom line---will the red/heated mirror work or will it not (or will it be a safety issue?) or do I need to simply buy the black one?

    Thank you!

So how does one operate a heated mirror? I don't drive the car much but I've never seen a switch to turn it on.

It's turned on by using the rear defroster

The mirror colors are just a cover, if you can safely pry your black cover off, you can put it on the replacement mirror

The claws that hold the color cover in place poke through into the inside of the mirror. After popping the glass/carrier out (this post describes how, with a picture of the two clip locations to release), it is very easy to reach inside and release/push out the color cover claws, no prying or forcing needed.
