Will satellite navigation transport with the display unit?

Hey guys, still the original owner of a 2015 Prius IV here because Toyota won't offer a sunroof, heads up display, lifetime free satellite navigation, or my modded signal mirrors on a new one....

I have some basic questions about Gen 3 LCD displays and the satellite navigation feature in particular. I think sat-nav was only available for trim packages III and IV because those may have been the only two trim packages that offered an LCD display. Is the software that displays on the LCD unit also contained within the unit or does it draw it from storage in another component such as the ECU? If the software is stored within the unit was the sat-nav feature of the technology package programmed into it at the factory or was the programming something that could be added or removed by Toyota either by satellite or a local service technician? Would it be possible for someone to swap a Gen 3 LCD unit with the sat-nav feature into another Gen 3 Prius that originally didn't come with it successfully as simply as plug and play or with some tweaking? Could it be made to work in a vehicle other than a Prius (assuming the wiring was worked out) and any necessary auxiliary components were transferred with it? For instance, stowed away in the glove box in a classic restomod?

The connectors on the wire harness were different between the nav and non-nav units, so it wouldn't plug right in. You might get it working with enough study of the wiring diagram and splicing.

You'd also need to pick up the GPS antenna, which mounts under the dash top.

The units were different between 2010-11 and the post-refresh, 2012-15 years. 2010-11 had just one nav option, the 7 inch touch screen with a map DVD. 2012- had two nav options, the 7" screen (now with maps on an internal hard drive) or the 6.1" screen with maps on an SD card. Pretty sure the wire harnesses and plugs were different for all of those ... check the diagrams.
