+++for driving in snow this winter in vermont:

I found a set of scion xd 5x100 16" rims with "195/60/r16" snow tires for sale.

Does anybody know if they will work on the prius?
The prius now has p185/65r15 factory wheels and tires.
I would be going from a:
    15" rim p185/65r15 tire to a 16" rim 195/60/r16 tire
both sets of rims have the 5x100 bolt pattern.

###i'm worried about going from a 15" to a 16" rim and different tire size.

###before i buy them i want to make sure they will work on my 2008 prius.

Diameter of 195/60/R16 is bigger than the stock. Your odometer will be 3% slower. The correct tire size is 195/55/R16.

You also need to check the offset of the xD rim. Stock rim offset is 45 mm.

    Stock Prius wheels are:
    Prius factory wheels
    15 inch 14.3 lbs
    16 inch 15.2 lbs

    5X100 mm holes
    45 mm offset
    6jj rim size

    2004-2009 Prius
    15X6JJ: 5X100mm PCD, 45mm offset
    16X6JJ: 5X100mm PCD, 45mm offset

The larger tires will probably be ok, but watch to see if they touch the fenders. I don't think they are larger by enough to do so. It's the offset that can cause problems. Lay a straight edge across the back of the rim and measure the distance down to the mounting flange (the part that contacts the axle). Add the distance from the rim your straight edge rested on to the inside of the wheel where the tire bead rests. That is the offset.

But the bottom line is if they fit without rubbing you will probably be fine. The difference in rotation rate will throw off the speedometer, but not by enough to really do much.

There are people who run 17x7s on a Gen2 so you should probably be fine.
