    According to Reader's Digest and Autobytel.com . . .

    * 40% are Republican's and 36% are Democrats. (Therefore, 24% appear to be Communist Pinko's, Socialist’s, Libertarians, Anarchists and GASP! those "None of the Abover's" commonly referred to as Independents! <_<
    * 21% live in the Midwest, 31% in the Northeast and just 16% live on the West Coast.
    * 57% are over the age of 45.
    * 49% don't not have a college degree and 35% make less than $40K per year.

Accordingly, Mods, please adjust the political spectrum ratio of your membership to reflect these new statistics. We could end up with a younger, better educated, more affluent and "Kinder, Gentler FHoP?!?"  :p

Aren't there statistics showing that most of the prius's are sold on the east and west coasts? I could be wrong.

That's according to Reader's Digest. Pretty much sounds like their typical readership; if you asked about, say, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, you'd probably get the same results.

"Reader's digest"= stories for people with the attention span no longer than 1 page. You might think the story is 4 pages long, but the page is 1/4 the size of a regular page.

It only takes one line to report a statistic. Why do you find it necessary to Bloviate for creditability?

I thought Reader's digestion was just for reading in the crapper? That's why they are short reads.

Prius drivers are pretty equal accross the spectrum of Americans. We've discussed this before. We also discussed why, given that, that PriusChat leans more to the left than the buyer statistics would suggest.
Because the younger you are, the more likely you are online and the more likely you are left of center. The older you are, the less likely you're online, and you're more likely right of center.

BTW, many people who vote democrat, would never call themselves democrats. Nearly all republicans are proud to be so. It's one of the advantages the repugs have over the demons.

Here's some info that says the exact opposite as far as where hybrids are sold. Oh, and I got a link, unlike the OP. :p

    http://www.hybridcars.com/market-dashboard...7-regional.html

Interestingly, when rated per capita, NO midwest states or cities make the top ten, including Chicago.

WK, do you have a link to your original story, or is this made up?

    Sorry. I found it.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/a...olumn?track=rss

But I do find the data you just presented and this "survey" contradictory. I prefer actual numbers better than "cited" percentages. It's like when 'kow presented that survey about who was more charitable conseratives vs liberals. As we all know, statistics can always be skewed. Sort of like that GM snow job about how hummers are more environmentally better than prius's.

Oh let the Republicans have it for now, they are on the way out ( who cares)

Who cares as long as we all are trying to do something that has long been over due. ( help mother earth)

Thanks, Burritos. I agree though, if sales numbers disagree with an online(?) survey, I'd believe the sales numbers. Unless everyone from the midwest buys their Prii in California and drives it home? :D

Also, not that this really matters, but the Autobytel survey is at least 8 months old.

When I was younger, I was not online.
When I was younger, I was a very conservative republican.
Now that I am old, I am liberal, I am online, and I am proud of it.

Stop using such a wide brush to whitewash with.

I may be old, but I ain't dead yet. Never had (or used) a computer til 7 yrs ago. Just as liberal (maybe more) than when my kids were small! When the kids grow up you get your life back - and have time to be online, and get the car you really want, without caring what others think of it or having to impress anyone.

Good Grief Guys calm down LOL! It always makes me chuckle a bit from the defensive reactions and replies you get when Lib's feel the least bit threatened! You all attacked RD, Autobytel, Repub's and now percentages because, I guess, actual numbers aren’t used to figure percentages? BaHaHaHahhaHaHah! That is just plain hilarious. [attachmentid=9112]
Believe me I was a bit startled that Repub’s bought Hybrid’s in greater numbers than Lib’s but the numbers clearly state there is only a 4% difference, BFD! It is just barely outside the "Margin of Error!" The reason I posted it was so that I could include the last paragraph chiding the Mods for allowing some many Lib's on PC when it is almost equal across the board! It’s called humor, son! But I see it went over almost everyone’s head perhaps I shall retract the attempt at humor and use a less humorous and a sterner rebuke for the Mods letting such negative, whiny bitchy people on an otherwise positive, upbeat board. BTW, Tyrin, your stats are about "New" purchases I think the Autobytel numbers are overall. Haven’t read all the rest and I probably won’t cause it’s not that BIG OF A DEAL and besides the scope of negativism here is Bumming me out! <_< :(

Bought mine used because I won't pay the new car premium. A 30 day old vehicle has lost at least 20% of its retail price. Oh, and I lean toward the conservative side in case you hadn't already noticed

I think early on people who want to make a statement about driving cleaner vehicles and using less gas sought out the Prius in order to support the "movement". For that we should all be grateful because they provided the demand that allowed Toyota to justify the expense of developing the vehicle. Since then, with gas prices rising, people that are just looking to reduce their transportation costs are becoming more interested in the high mileage cars. This is not going to be an overnight process. People will generally stick with the car they have until there is a good reason not to, and then they are still reluctant to change. I think, though, we have passed a tipping point this summer when gas was over $3.00 a gallon everywhere for an extended period of time. It brought into focus on a mass scale how the price of gas is going to go up over time. Sure, it will go up and down, but the bottom always seems to be higher than the last time it was down. The trend is up, thus the interest in more fuel efficient cars. I myself went from driving a 28 mpg Escort to 51 mpg in the Prius. But I didn't change until the Escort reached high mileage and started having repair bills. And Gas was > $3.00.

So, it's OK when you get defensive, but not us?

The key point here is that we have two sources that seem to say contradictory things. You're not willing to accept the fact that your source could be faulty. As could mine. But mine is based on sales numbers. Yours are based on a survey that you can't even find if you look at the Autobytel website. The only place it exists is in that Chicago Tribune article. No description of WHO they surveyed, WHEN it took place, HOW (website, e-mail, phone, mail).

If the sales numbers say nearly five times as many hybrids are sold in California than in ANY other state, then all those NE and Midwest drivers are buying used hybrids? Not likely. One of the sources is flawed. My money is on the survey being flawed.

    EDIT:
    OK, I found it on autobytel.com. http://www.autobytel.com/Images/newsletters/november/7.html

Still doesn't answer any of the questions about how they conducted the survey.

Also, interestingly, the respondents were those who "Say They’ve Either Bought or Are Seriously Considering Buying a Hybrid for Their Next Purchase". So not actual numbers of owners at all, just of who thinks they would get a hybrid.

I'll stick with the sales figures.

43% of hybrid car owners are not American <_<
