Dear Northern Virginia Prius Enthusiast,

My name is Meredith, and I’m a senior at Yorktown High School. I am in my second year of the Leadership and Diversity Training Program at Yorktown, and for my Leadership Outreach Project I am attempting to raise $100,000 to set up an endowment for the Marjorie Hughes Fund for Children.

The Marjorie Hughes Fund for Children was established in 1992 to provide needed medical services to Arlington Public School children. Services include covering the cost of glasses, antibiotics, and other medications for students who live in families with very low income. The Fund has helped families by contributing financially to large hospital and doctor bills and by providing transportation to visits with doctors and other health specialists. Financial contributions are made to help cover the cost of doctor visits, lab work, and special tests such as x-rays. Public health nurses in the schools identify children in need and arrange for fund covered services. All children eligible to attend Arlington County Public Schools can be assisted by the Fund.

With my Outreach Project, we will be raffling a Toyota Prius, which has been provided for us at cost by Koon’s Toyota of Arlington. I am contacting businesses in the area to help defray the cost of the car. My goal is to be able to put all raffle ticket proceeds toward the endowment.
