Anyone else notice lots of wind noise from driver side window area at highway speeds on Gen 5 Prius? Similar to this issue

    Is it a design fault?

I'm not saying the following is correct, just spitballing.

Maybe the mirror shape? One of the biggest generators of interior noise in cars is the air turbulence generated by how the side mirror interfaces with the door/body. The smaller the gap between the mirror and door, the worse it typically is, but it can also be influenced by the shape of the mirror body and how it connects with the car. I'm only thinking this way because the Prius and Crown(the car in the video) share the same mirror shape(though the connection to the body is different).

Or it could be many other things like the window seal not properly set, the window motor being slightly out of calibration so it's not closed completely, the door seal not fully seated or having a slight flaw, etc.

I haven't noticed anything terrible except for one day where I was driving with 50-65kph winds. The angle must have been just right because the wind noise was a couple times louder than normal. But I also have a Limited with the laminated front windows, so I don't hear as much noise typically.

That makes me think of something else. If you have a Limited or XSE+(North America), you're going to notice a little more noise from the small triangular glass in the front than the main front windows. While the main front windows are laminated glass, the little triangular sections are regular tempered glass.

Ok. I have XSE premium and I always hear weird cracking Wind noise from the door window over 120 km/h speeds.

I went to dealer too. They tried to charge me over 150$ just because their technician said he didn't hear anything. They waived it after I showed them they lied according to the app tracking the technician never even entered the highway to test it.

Also the noise seems to come from the left corner where the glass meets the A pillar.

Hey there, I can confirm I have this issue too, car is still under warranty but I don't trust the dealer too much, I'm thinking about swapping my tempered window to a laminated one in the future, hopefully they can improve it. Cheers!

Yes, there is a strong noise just like in the crown video. I just accepted that it was a thing since of the 3 cars I've driven all have had similar wind noises near the window.

I do need to remember to fold my mirrors back and see if that helps. Adding the toyota rain guards did not help or change the noise sadly.

While we're on driving noises, when it's raining and while driving, for some reason I'm really able to pick up a strong drip sound coming from the right side. Nothing is wet on the interior or trunk or floor so I'm not hinting towards that. It's just odd that the drip sound is isolated to the passenger side of the vehicle. And it's odd how CLEAR the drip sound is. But I can only assume it's rain being caught up in the wind around the car and then hitting one of the windows. Again just odd that it's consistent and pretty much only on the passenger side.

Could be a drip into the HVAC intake under the windshield cowling, or just hitting a spot near it that allows the sound to echo through the venting.

I can relate to this sound but for me this very very clear drip sound comes from the driver side window near B pillar its so clear as if it was entering in but no theres no leak and nothing comes inside. Also hear the wind noise around the same area so it's weird. I have been to the dealer 3 times with this wind noise issue and they couldn't figure it out. They said its probably a design issue on the Gen 5 and said they have spoken to some other Gen 5 owners and they have noticed it too.
