I want to put a switch in one of the thousands of blank switch panels by the dash dimmer on my 2013 Prius 2, USA version. What wires, and where are they, should I put the switch? Would anyone happen to know?

I hate that little light. I love complete darkness when driving. But I understand the need for it when you want to read something without turning on the bright interior lights.

Seems like a use an elephant gun to kill a fly solution IMO.

Translucent tape over it, so you can still see it when you really need it, like when you have an accident at night and can't see anything.

I'd second that. Actually, I can't even see it being an irritant: I'd kinda like to be able to see the shifter in the dark, and the light is very unobtrusive. Not that I ever use the thing to speak of, except to get in and out of reverse.

I'd put the back-up beep in the same category. And again, I kinda like it. Funny, both these are accomodations to the unorthodox shifter...

There was a guy here really worried about hitting Park at speed, tearing up the transmission, crashing, and so on (even tho it's software protected). He cobbled up a metal bracket to cover the button. Did not exactly look pleasing, and try explaining that to potential customers at trade-in time.

Not that I would test it, but I'd be very surprised if the system let you put it into park when you are at speed.

How can you achieve "complete darkness" by removing that little light when you have more lights coming across your dashboard?

I'd love a little more illumination for the effing door unlock switch.

I guess different strokes different folks. I hear all kinds of crazy ideas but the whole point of looking for wires......is so my little idea doesn't look like your friend with the Park button. haha THAT is crazy! I pride myself in not half assing anything and when someone sees my work, I want it to be thought out and executed correctly. I don't know, maybe I am just weird. Completely dark is just more comfortable, whether I am in my Prius or a straight truck driving across the state of Michigan. It just seems easier on the eyes and mind.

For me finding the shifter in the dark is not a problem as....my 6 speeds in my Freightliner are always still where I left them....unless you count reverse, then its 7!
