Gen II, '07. Do normal start routine and all lights on dash seem normal, but it won't start. Do get Screen saying "Problem with transmission lock mechanism etc.
Parking button right side light blinks, other side out.
Theft Deterrent system blinking on dash.
Might need to drag it home, 5 miles if can't get it started.
    Could that cause a problem?

    Thanks,
    Russ

    Russ,

The "Problem with transmission lock mechanism" message is often
"thrown" due to a weak/dying 12V battery. Any other "strange"
electrical oddities would only strengthen this probability.

The 12V battery has ~4 year service life under optimal conditions. If
you've ever needed a jump start, the life is shortened. Since you need
a battery in a hurry, check your nearest dealer. Mabybe ~$160, you
install. Make sure the dealer charges it fully. You may have to crawl in
through the back seat, and pull up the hatch area access panels to
access the battery, a real PITA.

You can always jump start the car with the hot points in the engine
bay. Be very, Very, VERY careful as reversing polarity can fry a
computer = $$$$. Even sparking at the terminals can cause problems.
Use a booster with a on-off switch. You don't need much juice,
you only need to get the computers to boot, then you can drive it --
to the dealer for a new battery? --because DC-DC converter will energize
    the 12V bus.

"Drag it home." Just a joke I hope. It should be put up on a flatbed.
