    here is a website that gives very sobering statistics on where the Earth is headed and it aint pretty.

    some environmental stats

    forest loss in hectares this year ....9,688,995

    desert land formed due to mismanagement (acres) this year... 12,649,540

    productive land loss through soil erosion (hectares) this year.... 5,382,795

    some health stats

    underweight kids right now.....180,000,000

    hungry people right now.....273,750,000

    dollars, spent on diet in the USA this year.....29,013,985,144 (this number changes so fast you cant really specify an amount)

    also lists several other stats, including estimated oil comsumption this year at 4.3 billion barrels. very enlightning site
