Would you rather have clean 150K mile leather 2008....or dirty 2012 plug-in with 220K?

Currently have a 2008 with clean leather/carpet/exterior (minus a few dings)... 150K miles...I don't really mess around on maintenance so right away new tires, alignment, front pads/rotors, front KYB struts, front wheel bearings, Mobil One, all filters, PCV valve, rain x wipers, spark plugs, trans fluid change, and new weather tech mats.

Got a 2012 up for sale that has 220K miles. and it is missing the charging cord (seen on eBay for $200)....and I would probably do a detail and then add leather seat covers as I'm not sure how they will clean up...If I kept it I would probably put $1000 minimum into it right away...I opened the rear hatch pop-outs under the mat where hybrid is and it says something like RM 2013 (just a piece of paper oddly sitting on top of hybrid battery). I am thinking it may stand for remanufactured at that date...but at that date it was not even a year old so not sure what the paper means!

I like the idea of the better MPG....I like plug-in option...I think the rarity and newer year makes it very attractive. But I also like my gen 2 with leather as cleanliness is very important too.

Which would you keep? At this point I would want $5500 for my gen 2 and then I would possibly keep the plug-in. The plug-in I would like $6500 for just because it is so rare under even $10,000 I don't see them often.

If gen 2 leather seats fit in the 2012 then I might consider swapping. Miles don't scare me. I like looks/comfort/MPG/way it drives/resale value. The odometer is the last thing i look at.

I'd be extremely wary of where the head gasket is at in the PiP, while the Gen 2 will likely do it's current mileage twice over again without issue.

With turd gen, mileage does need to be a concern, imo. If the EGR circuit has not been looked after, they are ticking time bombs. With gen 2, so long as they've been topped with oil, there's hardly any killing them.

Unfortunately I agree. :( the 2nd gen will run and run, especially if driven every single day. I'm almost scared of my 2012 v, as just past 100k miles its starting to use oil. Hopefully not a headgasket failure soon.

Clean the Egr circuit at 120k miles with the spark plugs and you’ll be fine;).

Over 165 k miles on our 2010 and running strong :).

Only used 6 ounces so far on this oil change interval, so things are looking up(y).

I'm curious about the 2013 RM note. Anyone have a clue? Seems highly unlikely that the battery was remanufactured.

My preference is the 2008. The Gen 2 model is like Ford's late 80's-mid 90's F150 with the 300 straight six. They just don't seem to die. I'm curious why you have Carolina plates on the back seat floor? Being from South Carolina, thought maybe you were local, but your info says MI. Previous local?

AFAIK, any official Toyota rebuilt part, including traction batteries, has an "-84" suffix attached to the end of the part number so it should be easy to tell.

Not sure but if I'm smart I'll drive the excellent condition 08 and save up for a lesser mile plug in that is clean.

I'm sure leather Clauzzio seat covers would make a world of a difference. 20171026_205316.jpg

    Plug in came from NY.

Also I incorrectly thought PIP did 30 miles electric but just found out it barely does 11 miles. Kinda pointless really unless u have very short commutes.

I sometimes put 200 miles in a day, once in a while 300.

If you charge it only once a day that comes to 3,640 miles a year. If you drive 12,000 miles a year, that's over 30% of your driving on EV. It's not insignificant IMO.

Only drove PIP less than a mile but about to take it on an hour drive right now....

But here is my lovely 2008:

If getting 69 mpg (include EV and HV) is pointless, I thank you for not being interested. This keeps prices low for me to buy another one used. I do 100+ miles daily.

For me it depends on how many bars it has on the battery.

Well, it does drive good. And the seat cleaned up a little bit just by scrubbing for 10 seconds. I have it listed for $7000 or best offer but I see myself getting $5500 if lucky....I wouldn't mind keeping it but it's not nearly as clean as mine. And that would mean I have to sell mine first. Will update. Here are some additional pics of the 2012:
