xm and sirus merging their line ups this week, eliminating duplicate channels.
from what i read if you have an xm radio you will be able to pick up sirus channels???? but if you have a sirius radio you will need a more recent radio, like the starmate 5 to pick up xm channels???

channels to be combined/merged wednesday november 12th

Hmmm, interesting. I just left the XM site and didn't notice any big announcements or anything.
Also, just a few weeks ago I paid for a 2 year subscription for the "Best of Sirius"...makes me think they're not gonna just give you their stuff.

Weather Channel Gone...that stinks. Glad to see Margarittaville made it in. Fine Tuning was nice sometimes too.

What about the upper numbered channels...POTUS '08, CNN, etc?

Will this fairly well sucks. I have a "top five" list of XM music channels. Two of them, Beyond Jazz and Fine Tuning, gone. Supposedly there's somewhat of a Sirius version of Fine Tuning, but nothing comparable to Beyond Jazz. Looks like jazz lovers on XMFan are pretty hot about it -- and I don't blame them.

I have both XM and Sirius and I'm glad to see that most of the crap stations on XM will be replaced by the superior Sirius versions.

I don't see anything about 27 - Cinemagic. I love that channel, would suck to be without it.

And changing the names of Fred, Ethel, and Lucy? Wth?? Those have got to be the coolest names for rock stations ever.

Maybe you won't have to worry about the merger. I read this in an article a couple of days ago:

"DENVER - Barely three months after the long-delayed merger of satellite radio companies Sirius and XM, the newly combined Sirius XM Radio is struggling to stay afloat.

The company has just another three months to start paying down more than $1 billion in debt that's maturing in 2009 at a time when credit markets are freezing up. It remains heavily dependent on automobile sales for new subscriber additions just as U.S. car sales are tanking. And its stock price is in a yearlong free-fall that has sparked an investor lawsuit."

I admit I don't listen to a lot of Sirius (just what I get on my DISH once in a while), but which stations do you think are superior to which crap XM channels?

My impression has been that XM has shown a lot more freedom for the DJs to play a broad variety of songs at will whereas Sirius uses Clear Channels play-lists based upon popular hits and 'what the masses like'.

I HATE clear channel. I HATE most of the crap that "the masses" like. That said, I'll be fine as long as they keep BBC World Service.

I'm an XM subscriber. Whatis the cost of the NFL package from Sirius per radio? I have two radios. I like XM. I've seen the duplication of music venues that will be consolidated. I think Sirius has always boosted itself as more hype. Is it because of Howard Stern? I listened to him when he was on commercial radio in Chicago for a few years. He was funny for awhile then, so neurotic. I can get that at work.

My wife just renewed our 3 Sirius subscriptions about 2 hours ago. It's funny that they never even mentioned the change to her.

About $4.04/month extra....less if you get an extended contract. I think I got 3 months free and a discount for a 2 year subscription.

The new Sirius lineup is here. Cinemagic is on the list, but says "available 1/1/09".
