Yahoo/US News: Most and Least Expensive Cars to Insure

    The top and bottom on the list aren't all the surprising. I am little three Mazda Tributes are on the least expensive to insure list but yet no Ford Escapes are... I wonder why the Escape is considered riskier/has higher claims.

    The simple answer is: because the actuarial tables show more and higher claims against (or by) owners of that vehicle.

    The why is a tougher question, but given that the personal injury costs tend to be the biggest portion, it's probably a combination of how likely you are to be injured in it, and how likely you are to injure others with it. Secondary considerations are the value of the vehicle (and the cost to repair) and the likelihood of it being stolen (some cars are more "popular" than others).

    That is what the article said - apparently, the insurance company data-miners are able to stereotype every kind of owner...
