Well, I am 16, wrecked my 08' Package 6 Touring Prius, so now, yeah, you guessed it, shopping time! I don't think my dad will help me again to get a $27,000 dollar car, so im on my own on this one. This is a Prius, that is pretty cheap, I am in desperate need of a car now, so I might go with this, but first, look at this picture and tell me what you see...

And do you think for 5,700 dollars, and 83,000 miles its a bad deal?
And if I do get it, please tell me what I have to do to it, like the first steps.
And will it run with it bad?

I see the Master Warning Light on + other warnings. You need to come back with the actual code(s) that are set, and someone with the 01 - 03 Service Manual will be able to tell you what the codes mean. It could potentially be more expensive than the $5700 they are asking for the car if you have to have someone fix it.

If your budget is that limited, you might want to consider a used Corolla or similar. Hybrids are cool, but broken hybrids with no warranty can be very expensive.

Does it start? Does it move?

If you don't have a second vehicle to fetch parts and budget for tools, parts and a shop manual, a used car, any used car, especially one not working, is a poor choice.

Get an old Corolla. A 16 year old kid has no business having a new car anyway, and for this very reason.
Tell me, what happened to the insurance payout?

Well, I am going to call the dealer,
and get all the information. I already called Toyota,
and told them about the car, and its problems, and they said
to take it to my dealer, and they will do everything to help me out.

Well, I would get a Corolla, but I would rather have a Prius. All the technology, and such. It would be hard, going from wanting something like a Prius, to something like a Cor\rolla.

    Well,
I can get more expensive, I am just saying, this would be a <right now> thing. Toyota said they would help me out with the car to fix it. And yeah, the Corolla is a good car, but to go from wanting something like a Prius, to a boring old corolla, I would be just giving up. With the Main warning light on, what does that usally mean?

It means that the car has some type of fault and a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) will be set and stored in one (or more) of the ECUs (electronic control unit aka computer). The code(s) could be related to the engine, transaxle, inverter, HV battery, etc. It is really impossible to tell what the issue is until someone retrieves the code(s).

IMO buying ANY car that is displaying warning lights is a bad idea as the light is on for a reason. You should be receiving FMV (fair market value) for your car which means the payment from the insurance company will allow you to buy a comparable vehicle. Look for a 2006-2009 with appropriate mileage. You may not miss some of the features if you drop down an option package or two. In any event, buy the best car you can afford.
