New tires. How long does does the “mpg seems low” feeling last

    Car came to me wearing Blizzaks. Spring is here and now it’s sporting Michelin X Tour. So far so good. They roll, they grip, and they make some amount of noise when driving.

    Also: there is a new tire on the shelf at Costco, X Tour A/S T+H 2. Treadwear increased to 840, traction and temp both B. I got the original (820 AB) but those won’t be around much longer.

    could take a few thousand miles, or the tyres might just have high rolling resistance

    When I replaced the factory Toyo NanoEnergy tires at 66K with Bridgestone Turanza Quiettracks, my running average mpg dropped from 59 to 56 and stayed there. Not much of a hit. Coming up on the half life of the Bridgestones and thinking maybe try the Ecopia LRR or wander back to a Goodyear brand.

    As mentioned, higher rolling resistance maybe the answer for the OP thread.
    Different brands can need different tire pressure adjustments; lower pressure would induce more rolling drag.

    Perhaps the OP new tires need higher pressure?
    I find a Pyrometer tool useful.

    I don't think the unused tread/ height of the new tire as compared to the used-up tread of the old tire and mileage calculations are the answer for the OP thread.
