Default Location of GPS antenna

Is the GPS antenna on the radio antenna? If not, where is it?

I'm planning on having my windows tinted this weekend. The summer sun in south Florida makes me want to add a strip of tinting at the very top of the front windshield. Most of the window films have some metal in them and I don't want to do anything that would interfere with receiving GPS signals.

Thankx

It's located in the dash, behind the display, near the center speaker. Unless you tint your entire windshield, you should probably be okay.

I read somewhere that metalic tints should probably be avoided.

I'm not David, but I had my windows tinted within a few days of getting my Prius back in Oct. I can't tell that it affects the GPS at all. Someone else did a semi-experiment by going into the diagnostic screen at a given location, counted the satellites recived, got his windows tinted, went back and did the same with no change in the number recieve or apparent signal strength. And it looks GREAT.

How about posting which windows you got tinted and what %?

Does anyone ever get the side ones done but leave front and back alone? Or would that look too weird? I would like to cut down on the heat/sun but don't like the visibility loss.

Evan, what % did you go for?

I got all the glass tinted except for the lower glass of the hatch and the front windshield. I honestly don't remember what % it was, it was 1 step past legal, but looked much better than the way too light legal.

Well assuming that MO is more conservative than CA (usually safe!) then I'm probably fine doing whatever is legal here, huh?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Actually there are three groups of tinting laws across the various states (ignoring Federal statutes, because everyone else does). The group California falls into allows the following (the last time I checked).

Amount of tint allowed:

Visor................4"

Front doors..... None (clear)

Rear doors.......Any

Back window.....Any

It would look weird here in Cali if the front windows are not tinted at all while the back ones are.

Weird, yes, but I do see it from time to time My Lotus has tinted windows all around. When I bought it I asked about the tint and was told that the police generally ignore giving you a ticket if you aren't stopped for something else.
