Exclusive: GM CEO Says Chevy Volt Will Sell in Low 30’s and For a Profit

Quote:
But when General Motors CEO Ed Whitacre spoke to Lyle Dennis at GM-Volt.com, Whitacre said that the Volt would be priced "in the low 30s" and be profitable.

The big unknown from that statement is whether that means before or after the $7,500 federal tax credit. We're still awaiting a clarification from General Motors on that point, but in all likelihood, that low $30,000ish price would be after factoring in tax incentives

Someone please remind me about something. The article says: ". . .the federal government passed legislation that will give initial Volt buyers a $7500 tax credit. . ."

How is this legislation phrased? Would it also apply to the Plug-in Prius?

The tax credit is based on battery capacity, meaning the plug-in Prius will qualify for about $3,500.

Does that apply to after-market installs also? Or only factory-built plug-ins?

Wow, the front spoiler / air dam is practically dragging on the ground. I wonder if that will be carried into production? I think a standard 5" parking curb would take that thing off.

20s, then 30s, then 40s, back to 30s.
Again, I am simply not going to believe ANY details (availability date, cost, mpg with and without batteries, electric range, etc) until I actually see a product.

Ask prior EV1 Lessors. Their air dams were similarly low slug for better drag rates. Sick irony ... GM charged back the EV1 lease customers for bringing 'em back with damaged air dams at the end of the lease, before they crushed 'em.

Will the Volt production be that low? My inquirey is will it make it into production at all.
hope hope.

That particular tax credit is tied directly to each automaker, with specific quantity/time limits.

So, no.

They really know how to build customer loyalty, don't they?

Good point. I think they will go into production eventually but the number of available vehicles will be purposely be really low.
