Default Most Boring Thread

I had this totally uninspiring urge for this bland post.

Going to bed soon, long day building shelves made out of wood. To be more precise, used four 2x3x8 and two sheets of 3/4 plywood.

Getting the plywood cut at 16" all the way was quite uneventful, since the full sheet doesn't fit in a Prius. The store where I bought from charges 2$ a cut, no matter the length.

I like using a cordless drill and a corded drill, best of both worlds, when putting in a lot of screws, nothing beats the raw power of a corded drill.

What else...oh yeah, used a few metal brackets in some areas so the shelves won't move up and down.

So I'm off to bed knowing there's extra room now in this house we moved into in our downsizing.

Automatic feeding screw gun or did you have to pick up and place each screw on the bit?

I once built a bookcase for LPs (long playing vinyl record albums).

I sawed the wood with a hand saw.

Because my skills were limited, the saw blade would angle slightly offline with each stroke as I sawed.

I ended up with a bookcase that was 29 inches wide in the front, and 27 inches wide in the rear.

This ended up working just fine because the front closed spine of a LP cover is thicker than the rear opening.

I was browsing a local bookstore yesterday and there was a book on making things out of items normally discarded. One items that caught my eye was a book case made out of drawers. Turn the drawers top facing front, and use a corner strip to hold them all together top to bottom and serve as legs. It was nice but a little too "craftsy"for my tastes.

One neat thing I did that I really liked was to use an eight-panel wooden door as a back-bar mirror (behind a bar I built in the basement). The panels were glass so I taped off the wood and spray-painted the glass with silver paint. Made a really cool mirror.

I've built bookshelves, too.
I love using real planks of wood (thin ones, of course), and corner braces to hold them.
The first one I built, the guy at the lumber place cut all my shelves for me, no charge...
I think it was cuz I was cute

That does go a long way. My mother got through college biology on her looks. She never had to touch a specimen.

Well yesterday I re-caulked the marble countertop in one of the bathrooms and put new toilet seats on in both bathrooms, bought a new shop vac and sucked up all the dog/cat hair and bird seed and feathers from our finches. I decided to just buy an new shop vac since the old one was being held together with ductape and the filter inside got all moldy becuase "somebody" in our house sucked up something wet and then let it sit for a few weeks and I figured the moldy spores were not worth dealing with and just threw out the old one.

This thread is getting entirely too interesting, therefore off topic (?). Can we discuss the advantages of deadheading flowers? What do we do with the castoff blooms -- throw them in recycle or let them drop to the ground as futuremulch?

I just clipped the faded blooms off some lillies yesterday and this morning I pinched blooms off dill. Depending on what you intend with the plant determines if you need to remove the flower bud or wait till the bloom starts to fade or let the seeds form. All removed material should go into the compost.

I just cleaned my car yesterday for the first time (that was not boring), however today I had 6 big bird poops on it. So I just cleaned them off, yawn, but the car looks great again. How is it birds always find the clean cars?
