Friends: 0 | I'm doing the 12v front power outlet mod on my 06 to have unswitched power available for my Sirius S50 (has the ability to record up to 50 hours...like a tivo). My question is do I have to worry about a power drain or is it such a negligible amount if left on overnight. Does the 12v plug draw from the traditional battery or the hybrid ones? What happens in a similar scenario like when a dome light is left on for hours? |

Friends: 60 | Unless your car is in READY mode, ready to drive, you are using the little 12V battery. The HV battery is completely disconnected when you power off. When you put the car in READY mode, it charges the 12V battery. I have no idea how much power your sat radio will draw, so I can't say how it will affect the 12V battery. Welcome to PriusChat! |

We give newbies a hard time in my harley group yahoo (3 strikes & out for off-topics & spam) so don't hold back in rippin' me a little if I'm outta' line, LOL. I'm feeling very welcome here. Within the last week i've done mods to eliminate the back up and seat belt buzzers, disconnected the center speaker from the jbl "premium sound system" & done ev mod utilizing the high beam switch. I loved how simple it was to cover the upper & lower slits in the front grille using foam pipe insulation. So far I think I spent under $5 at radio shack and less at home depot. Until I make room to keep the car in my garage (yes, a pruis & electra glide will fit in a one car garage minus pinball machine resto project) I want to add a BH. I've already noticed a gain in mpg and quicker warm up so now it's time to spend some "real money" (still shopping for the best deal on the BH...thanks brad] milwalkeehybrid for the toyota part#). Do I sound like enough of a cheap-skate? Good. I'm trying my best to fit in here.

Friends: 14 | S50 spec sheet says max power requirements is 1.5 amps at 5 volts, so 7.5 watts if the DC converter is 100% efficient. I would guess the worst case scenario is that it would discharge your Prius 12 v battery to a level where it would not boot up the car in 3 days. It could very well take a few days longer than that though, especially if its audio amp is not driving headphones the entire time. I guess you're going to find out! |
