I'm new on the prius forums. recently purchased an 05 Prius with a C package. It is an American car but purchased in Canada where I live. Since this seems to be the place to get answers on the Prius Nav system I hope you will have an answer to my question. While parked on the side of the road my partner noticed that the nav could not find the highway that we were on. So he went into the section where the override is and hit the top right button. Then hit Yes..it deleted everything on the right side of the nav box. We have called every dealer we can find in Canada and the USA for an answer on how to fix it. The only thing that comes up on the screen is... Please insert the map DVD. We inserted it and nothing happens. Do you have any idea how we can repair this?
Please feel free to reply to me directly or on here. I hope i can find your replies...lol

Thanks in advance,
Sandi

I would recommend disconnecting the 12v battery for 30 seconds. This will erase any memory presets and possibly reset your Nav system. The other option is to unplug the head unit/MFD for 30 seconds, but disassembly of part of the dash is required.

Hi Sandi (Sugar5)

Hope you got the NAV Manual with your '05 Prius. Your post was not detailed enough to determine just what "upper right" button your pressed. the 'upper right' button is different for different MFD screens. You may have been on the "split screen" which usually shows a more-detailed view on the right for turns. One good resource for NAVigation system information is an online DVD for the Lexus - same Toyota Navigation system, just a little different dashboard button placement. This DVD runs better if you have a high-speed Internet connection, like DSL.

Another helpful source of information is John's web site and his "User Manual" written in more friendly terms than the Toyota Owner's Manual. Go to "Prius Info - User Guide H"

This is a silly question, but I assume you inserted the NAV DVD into the drive under the driver's seat, and not into the CD player.

Thanks everyone for the help...we have just disconnected the 12 Volt so will let you know what happens. And yes we did put the DVD in the unit under the seat...

Thank you so much galaxee....now to find the jam to go ahead and do that fix...the vehicle is still under warranty so i think i'll take the fix to a dealer in WA and see if they will fix it. Another poster did that and had good luck. Scares me too much to go playing with all those wires..LOL

Perhaps you should reread Sandi's post. Her parter went into the service menu section of the navigation system (keywords: "where the override is..."). The navigation system manual does not instruct in the use of such hidden service menus.

sandi.... i hate to tell you this but digging into the hidden menus and screwing up your nav system isn't exactly a warranty covered item. chances are the dealership will only offer to replace the nav unit (at high cost). techs are being told in training classes that customers have done this and that it is not a computer glitch, it is from tampering with the hidden menus.

i wish you all the luck in the world, but remember where those instructions are should you have to do it on your own.
