I have an '04 and the small bolts that hold the clips to the retractable Hatch cover have fallen out. Despite re-tightening and even some glue, I'm down to my last one and the cover is temporary useless.

My toyota dealer offered to sell me a new cover for $371 and advises that the hardware is not an available part from Toyota.

These don't look like normal metric hardware as they are coarse thread. (4 or 4.5mm)

Any idea where to find these little troublemakers- Next time I'm going with extra Loctite.

A couple of years ago several people had the whole thing replaced under warranty after losing one or two of those screws. At least one guy just went to the local hardware store and found a screw of the same size and used that. Are you out of warranty? If not, have your dealer offer to get you a new one for $371 less than the price he mentioned.

After reading those posts (actually in the Yahoo! Prius 2G group) I immediately put Locktite on both Barb's 2005 and my 2006 the first day after picking the cars up. However, I suspect Toyota fixed the problem as I don't think I have heard of anyone losing those screws after the 2004 model year.

after losing the ones on the wife's 2k4 I went to the hardware store bought some the right diamater but too long and ground them down to the right length and put them in with hot melt glue. Done, finished, end of trouble. Total cost about $1
