All I can say is good job!.... look at an arts and craft store for some paint pens that may match the dash if that mark can't be cleaned off.

Even walmart has paint pens in the automotive section.

I would put on a dab and immediately wipe excess off with a cloth hoping the rubbed part would catch the paint.

Anyway.. great pics.. still looks intimidating.. guess I'm a wuss with my brand new 32K car that doesn't have a scratch yet.... I hate to initiate it with a scratch in such a visible spot!

Just seems like lots of room for error to crack, split, scuff, or just flat break something.

I guess if you went slow and meticulously it may be ok.... Like I say, this isn't your headlight assembly, this is very visible if you screw something up!

I'll have to think about this for a while!

Sure theres not a DVD hack we could do?... that would be too easy!
Those things are hard to burn too!

I've done some pretty daring things when I feel good about it... but I don't quite have that feeling yet on this one!

Here's a 4th option which uses the "DEST" and "MAP" buttons that come with the car to enable and disable navigation and phone inputs. Basically the same as the prior solutions but doesn't add a new switch. It is a bit more challenging, but some of the more adventurous hackers may want to give it a shot, so I'll share the schematic and some photos. More images here:

As cynical as it sounds, there are way too many in our society who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. This, I'm sure, is the reason that Toyota locked it out in the first place...
they locked it out because they are a deep pocket, so the suits were inevitable ... you simply need the disclaimer that it is so the passenger can use the nav while the driver focuses on driving, and have the buyer sign a waiver releasing you from all liability should they be injured from "driving while distracted" ... which is a moving a violation in my neck of the desert

Sorry for my ignorance, but never having had a navi system I have to ask, is it illegal for the driver to access it while driving? Just while in motion though? Can input while at a red light?

I tried googling but just found a bunch of articles about how it is illegal to use navi on your cell phone in Australia. ?

Oh, also, are you not even able to see the map while driving? This all seems pretty silly to me, it's a navi system and most of the time there is only me in the car.

I can't speak to the laws, but the intent is that the driver not be distracted while driving.

Certain features are available, but the more distracting features such as entering an address are disabled. But you can select certain features such as 'go home'.

I think that having the right side HUD show restaurants and tips about the next exit is far more of a distraction than setting my destination.

Oh, I agree.
Which is why I would like to override the limitations on the NAV.
