Some 2010 Toyota Vehicle Oil Change Intervals Officially Revised To 10000 miles/1 year (verified!)

GST region has been notified of this since December 9th. Apparently this interval will be the norm for all Toyotas as more and more engines transition to 0W20 oil.

Boo, they are not going to reprogram the 5,000 miles reminder.

The reminder stays the same because the tire rotation and brake inspections etc. are still mandatory every 5K miles and people would forget that if the light was set to 10K miles.

I can't see how not rotating the tires would void anything but the tire warranty.

I'm not blaming owners on this, but I sure wish we could get a nationwide, Toyota wide, announcement on this. If they are changing and/or are going to change the oil change interval recommendation then I wish they would just do it.

Regional announcements become like a slow wave. I'd just like it confirmed and solid EVERYWHERE at some point.

To me bumping it up to 10,000 miles would be a fantastic benefit to Prius ownership, as I'm not much on changing my own oil so if it can become a 10,000 mile event SUPER!

But I just don't get why it seems like a slowly leaking out secret that get's revealed from region to region, dealership to dealership...just do it, or don't.

If you have a braking system problem at 10K miles, they could say the brake warranty is now void because you missed the 5K brake inspection.

FWIW, I spoke with one of the service advisors at my local dealer earlier today. She stated that it was official. The oil change interval is now 10,000 miles and the appropriate onboard computer will be reprogrammed so that the oil change reminder will light up at 10,000 miles rather than the current 5,000 miles.

Take it for what it's worth. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about. Good news if it's true.
