2010 - Help! Disabling Reverse Beep

Steps from previous posts worked with my 2004 Prius - but didn't work with the 2010...just purchased yesterday and would REALLY love to disable the backup beep - any suggestions from technical guys?

Page 584 of the owners manual says it can be changed from beeps repeatedly to beeps once--needs to be done by dealer, unless somebody here has figured out a DIY.

I agree the beep is annoying as hell. Least it could do is beep outside so others are warned when my wife drives it.

Manual says the dealer does it with "special equipment". I cant help but wonder if the special equipment is just the service manual that tells you the code such as reset odometer, turn on ignition twice, stand on your head and bark thee times, then open the lower gove box and hold it open for five seconds while opening and closing the uper glove box twice. Shift to B while reciting the Pledge of Alegence, then let all the air out of the front right tire for 10 minutes while singing Joy to the World by Three Dog Night.

Wouldn't it be crazy if I have unknowingly revealed the actual procedure?

Agree about the crazyness of "special equipment".

Someone must have a guide to adjusting the Custom Features.

I just got back from having the dealer do it for me (free). Blessed, blessed reverse silence.

What is the point of the interior beeping ? Is it so a driver does not forget he is in reverse when trying to pull forward ?

HA! That is exactly what the first procedures were like! I'll drop by the dealer tomorrow - pretty good chance the mechanics won't know how to do it either...Thank you!

Actually, yes. In a normal car with a shifter position indicator, when R is engaged, it's an orange square over the "R" position on the dashboard. With the Prius, the square is the same white colour and it blinks so it's not as obvious.
