Friends: 0 | The owner's manual harps over and over again about always setting the parking brake when parking...I've never done that with any of my automatic transmissions. Does anyone think this is actually necessary? |

Friends: 0 | Unless you are parking on a hill, it's not necessary. Just leave it in Park. |

Friends: 10 | That's my approach as well (only on hills). Setting the brake won't hurt anything, so do it if you want. Toyota is very conservative when it comes to safety, so it's not a surprise that they harp on it. Tom |

The chance of both the parking pawl and parking brake failing...and your Prius rolling into a car or child is, close to implausible. If they DON'T say it, with our litigious U.S. society - well you know... But, when parking on an incline - I always use the parking brake. Simply better safe than sorry, and easier on the parking pawl mechanism.

It is irritating trying to decipher your posts. I know you said you use iPhone or iPod - whatever. Do you ever read back your writing on your posts? We'd appreciate hearing from you even more if we could easily read and understand your input. I know I sound like a cranky old guy reprimanding you like an English professor. In life, we are always "graded" - like it or not.

Friends: 0 | I 'iz aLwYz b PuTin' my P-bRaKe on~~!!~~ Just kidding. Anyways, I ALWAYS put by parking brake on, not just on my prius. If its not on a hill, it may only be 1 or 2 clicks in, but its just something that I've got in the habit of doing. Plus, when starting, if I sit in park w/o the brake on, and the engine turns on, it helps to reduce/eliminate that 'kick forward'. |

Friends: 33 | It is the law here, the park brake must be set. Costs nothing to apply it. |

Friends: 3 | The horse is already out of the barn on this topic: Do You Use The Emergency Brake When Parking? I use the parking brake all the time, always have, ever since I first drove a stick. |
