Friends: 0 | A discussion on another forum started by a guy who swore that Oregon must have more Prii then anywhere. It was fleshed out by a poster with the correct data and what was actually found--to no one's surprise-- is that a state's population basically dictated how many Prii there were. In other words, the 10 most populous states were also ranked 1-10 in Prius sales. However, another poster compared the number of people to the number of Prii and the data changed dramatically. No surprise to me but Vermont has the most Prii per capita. ![]() I thought you guys would be interested: State | Population | Prius Owners | Number of Persons for every Prius Vermont - 625,741 - 3,924 - 159 California - 37,253,956 - 223,526 - 167 Oregon - 3,831,074 - 20,248 - 189 District of Columbia - 601,723 - 2,939 - 205 Washington - 6,724,540 - 32,840 - 205 New Hampshire - 1,316,470 - 5,692 - 231 Massachusetts - 6,547,629 - 27,134 - 241 Virginia - 8,001,024 - 31,144 - 257 Maryland - 5,773,552 - 22,164 - 260 Colorado - 5,029,196 - 18,054 - 279 Connecticut - 3,574,097 - 12,797 - 279 Maine - 1,328,361 - 4,602 - 289 Arizona - 6,392,017 - 21,919 - 292 Hawaii - 1,360,301 - 4,355 - 312 Rhode Island - 1,052,567 - 3,289 - 320 New Mexico - 2,059,179 - 5,937 - 347 Minnesota - 5,303,925 - 14,891 - 356 Wisconsin - 5,686,986 - 15,783 - 360 Delaware - 897,934 - 2,414 - 372 Montana - 989,415 - 2,555 - 387 New Jersey - 8,791,894 - 21,438 - 410 Illinois - 12,830,632 - 30,611 - 419 Florida - 18,801,310 - 43,175 - 435 Nevada - 2,700,551 - 6,031 - 448 North Carolina - 9,535,483 - 20,920 - 456 Pennsylvania - 12,702,379 - 27,711 - 458 Iowa - 3,046,355 - 6,490 - 469 Kansas - 2,853,118 - 5,944 - 480 New York - 19,378,102 - 39,741 - 488 Oklahoma - 3,751,351 - 7,509 - 500 Alaska - 710,231 - 1,401 - 507 Idaho - 1,567,582 - 3,071 - 510 Utah - 2,763,885 - 5,240 - 527 Missouri - 5,988,927 - 11,196 - 535 Wyoming - 563,626 - 1,035 - 545 Indiana - 6,483,802 - 11,698 - 554 Ohio - 11,536,504 - 20,336 - 567 Arkansas - 2,915,918 - 4,700 - 620 Texas - 25,145,561 - 40,098 - 627 South Dakota - 814,180 - 1,266 - 643 Nebraska - 1,826,341 - 2,749 - 664 Georgia - 9,687,653 - 14,270 - 679 Michigan - 9,883,640 - 13,727 - 720 Tennessee - 6,346,105 - 8,650 - 734 South Carolina - 4,625,364 - 6,188 - 747 Kentucky - 4,339,367 - 5,713 - 760 West Virginia - 1,852,994 - 2,435 - 761 Alabama - 4,779,736 - 5,647 - 846 North Dakota - 672,591 - 707 - 951 Louisiana - 4,533,372 - 4,253 - 1,066 Mississippi - 2,967,297 - 2,101 - 1,412 In an easier to read table>> VWVortex.com - Help me prove there are more Prius drivers in Oregon than any other state Just a word of caution, that forum fairly well represents the ridiculous "Prius Haters" mantra, with a few exceptions of course. |

Friends: 0 | Population should be licensed drivers or number of vehicle owned. Large urban areas like NYC with their large non driving or car owning populations distort these kinds of statistics. |

Friends: 15 | Almost every thread where Prius owners comment on other Prius they see, I wonder how they are seeing other Prius. My claims that there are no 'other Prius' now make more sense. Driving to neighboring states does not help much, they fill out the rest of the bottom of the chart. |

WA State ranks #1 and by better than a 50% margin over any other state. apparently this chart only shows private owners so it tells about half the story. just because State, County and City governments are what they are, does not mean they also made a conscious choice to purchase the Prius. its not like they were forced to do....OH Wait!! WA state actually mandated that all state fleets purchase alternative fuel vehicles to reduce their carbon footprint years ago. so lets get a REAL chart here!!

Friends: 14 | cant find it now, but read a report about 6 months ago where 54% of Priuses in the state are owned by State, Federal, City or County government agencies. WA state has been very proactive to reduce our carbon footprint for years. the key reason we rank high for Prius ownership despite having no HOV (the ONLY reason VA, CA and DC rank anywhere) privileges is workers forced exposure to the Prius. they drove it, realized the benefit and went and got one of their own. http://www.p2pays.org/ref/26/25906.pdf a document encouraging state agency directors to buy Priuses....notice the date? why this area considers it so important to increase our gas mileage and reduce our oil consumption;after all, Kissinger knew it was a problem 40 years ago http://www.wedc.wa.gov/Download%20files/BeyondOil.pdf

Friends: 0 | Wow, tough crowd.... The data is what it is, private owners of Prii per capita by state. I thought you guys would find it interesting, that's all. I certainly didn't expect to get chastised for not posting precisely what you were hoping to see. Carry on. |

I liked it, thanks. Those who want more can combine US Census data with the above data and massage it any way they want. Last edited by xs650; 12-23-2010 at 06:06 PM.

Friends: 0 | What data DO we have? Hybrids per capita? Hybrids per capita per state? Hybrid miles driven per capita? How about instead of per registered driver, we try and find out the hybrid percentage of all registered cars? I can't believe Illinois is so far down the list, there are at least four on my block. |

Friends: 0 | What I think is cool is that almost everyone seems to think "their state" has the most Prii, which is awesome because it means we are all seeing so many of them and that's a net win in my book. |
