MAINT REQD ?

I noticed that John described how to reset the light, the ODO+Power Button combination to reset it. BUT, What makes the light come on?

Does it come on like a timer does, after a certain amount of time passes or mileage passes? Or does it come on when there is an acutal problem?

Just wondering. Nobody would want to reset the light if an acutal problem did exist.

Is this only for oil changes? or what....

Sorry for any dubious understanding....

Mileage...at 4500 miles after reset it begins to flash at start up, 5000 miles it is on steady.

10k miles the car self destructs ;-)

I turned off the maintenance info after 11,000. I am at 15,170 and the maintenance light has not come on.

I originally thought it may be at the 5,000 mile intervals, based literally on the odometer reading not distance. But I had enough of a gut feeling to delay the reset this last time. It confirmed my suspicion. That light comes back on 4,500 miles after you last disabled it. So if you were to wait until 11,000 miles. It wouldn't illuminate again until 15,500 miles.
