Question Ready to get Sirius, what do I need???

OK, I have an '07 package 6 Prius. It seems like there are a lot of different products floating around the internet. Priuschat offers a kit for $265. I found a SC-C1 & TOY-SC1 combo on ebay for $130 shipped. Then on www.metrotpn.com I see a Sirius kit for $165 and a $85 "fit" kit. On TssRadio.com I see SC-C1 & TOY-SC1 combo for about $150. Then on authentictoyota.com they have a recveiver and "fit" kit for $270.

So obviously I've done some searching around for a good deal and the different products. I know some of you prius chatters have experience with these installs. So maybe you can give me a better idea of what products I need and differentiate the different products I listed above.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I took mine to the dealer. Paid $400 and waited an hour, no worries.

$400 and 1hr? Installing it myself in 30mins for $150 is more appealing. Come on, learn how to work kid. I'm glad to see you are a Bubba Mark as well Jammin. I posted this again in the Audio part of the forum. Maybe I'll get more responses there.

i do not have sirius,

but i believe the sirius radio (PTS31-53060) and "fit kit" were last year's toyota solution for sirius, and the current toyota solution is the universal sirius tuner and interface which you refer to as a SC-C1 & TOY-SC1

the original sirius radio costs more because it sounds like its just 1 box (with reciever + interface) for toyota vehicles
where as the scc1 is a universal sirius radio & toy-sci interface , which are seperate parts

they might have differnet limitations on how many chacacters the unit can display for song titles you need to do more research.

i know the toyota sc-sc1 and sc-c1 combo can scroll

if u get the scc1 and sc1 i dont think u need a fit kit

anyone have photos of this install? or instructions? The XM instructions in the prius chat shop look like a lot of work. Are the newer solutions easier to install? It seems everyone was saying I need to take off only one part of the dash rather than the XM instructions taking apart the entire dash.

The price at the time was the same either way. The only difference was I got to sit in an air conditioned loddy instead of sweating my off for an hour.

Plus, seeing as the dealer did it, it's covered under warranty.

Learnt how to work, love that warranty.

As a DIY guy, I say go for the TssRadio.com I see SC-C1 & TOY-SC1 combo.
Their customer service is great for any Q's you may have prior to purchase.

Hey Jammin, you want to play poker sometime? LOL $400? You just have too much money, huh?

Prolly, but let something happen to my radio, fully covered. You install it yourself and muck it up you're out. If the dealer does it then it's free stuff all around.

I took the Jag in because the plastic windshield thing was peeling up a little, I mean A LITTLE. They came to tell me the mechanic broke my windshied pushing on it. I smiled and may have laughed out luod and said cool where's the rental? I was looking to replace it anyway.

Things I got for free because I refuse to work on the car under warranty:
Radio x3
Pre-amp
AMP
Antenna cable
Back galss
Front glass
TRANSMISSION
Headlights

.
Is that before of after you figured in the premium paid for "refusing to work on the car under warranty"?

To each their own.
If I had money enough for jags and premiums, I'd be even MORE encouraged to DIY, as I could afford to replace whatever I broke.

What premium? Paid 26K for the Jag, paid 27K for the Prius. You want to talk about a killer warranty. Toyota's can't hold a candle. Niether can any American car company. The only people who come close or exceed is Mercedes and BMW.

First week I had the Jag I found out when I turn the rear defrost on the AM radio doesn't work. I know I know, who cares about AM. Well the guys at the dealership did some troubleshooting, I knew it was the back glass but figured that's why they get paid the big bucks, plus I went nuts for their hot chocolate. They figured it was a radio problem, then it was the amp, then the pre-amp, then the antenna cable. Then they called England and talked to some engineers. They of course told them the back glass needed to be replaced. The radio antenna goes through the middle of the window, no external mounting. They ordered the glass but I had to go to MS before it came in.

Got to MS and went to the dealer and explained what had happened. They told me they needed to go through the troubleshooting proceedures to make sure. SO, they replaced the radio, amp, pre-amp, antenna cable and then called England to talk to the engineers. Glass showed up a couple weeks later and didn't have a problem after that.

BTW, out of pocket expenses related to this whole "repair" was MAYBE a tank of gas. Rental cars were fully paid for by Jaguar and all maintenance was covered under warranty.

Of course AFTER the warranty ran out I stopped going to the dealer to fix things, just 5k oil changes and 10k maint. No warranty = crazy expensive.
