Thumbs up

The MFD on my 2005 prius has a strange issue. I have seem similar posts but mine is a bit different so I felt that it merited it's own.

Sometimes after starting the car, I have no MPG / Temp / Arrows / Miles traveled displayed on the MFD. The next time it happens, I will check to see if I get the AC connection message but as I understand it, that only effects 2004 models and earlier. As I recall, the radio still is fully functional but I am not 100% sure. When I turn off the car and start it again, I have all of the missing info back.

Does anyone know what would be causing this? It is under warranty still ( I spent more for the 100K warranty when I bought it used). I don't want to pay for a service appointment though when they find nothing wrong.

Thanks!

The MFD issue affects some early '05 models as well...check the TSBs and tech forum, there's a TSB with the exact VINs somewhere here. Bottom line is, if it's acting funny at all and you're under warranty get it replaced ASAP...there's been a backlog of refurb replacements in some places and you "get" to drive around with no MFD for a while while you wait for a replacement. If it's acting up a little it'll go out completely soon enough.

Do you have any mods? DICE is known to cause MFD failure like symptoms.

If not, Evan is right. What's the manufacture date of your Prius?

Yes I do. I installed the Terk XM Radio kit the day after I bought the car. I have had intermittent problems with it cutting out but after reading other forums, I am seeing that it is fairly common. Does the XM direct device cause issues similar to the DICE issues? I have not noticed any correlation between the two events but I will keep it in mind.

Thanks to efusco for the link to the TSB!

My manufacture date is 03/05 so it is not one of the early models. I will be checking with Toyota anyway though.
