I just read the manual on my 2008 Prius. On page 448 "Customizable features" It says "Your vehicle includes a variety of electronic features that can be personalized to your preferences. Programming these preferences requires specialized equipment and may be performed by an authorized Toyota dealership." Under item "door lock" The function "speed-detecting automatic door lock function' the Default setting is "off" the Customized setting is "On".. Could it be that easy? I bring my Prius to the dealer and say change this customized setting? It looks that way. I've included a pdf file of the manual.

I just pulled my manual out to look at that. It also says the default setting should lock the doors when taken out of park and putting in park should unlock. Both show "on" as default yet my car doesn't do this..I wonder if these are turned off in port? I would love it to do that..I had a Lincoln that did exactly this..I think I would have the speed lock turned on and putting it in park unlocks turned on if possible..I wonder if anyone has done this?

Hi, I just got my first Prius last month and love it! I used to have a Saturn and one of the cool saftey features it had was when you put the car in drive the doors would automaticly lock and when you put it in park they would unlock. Can this same feature be done to my Prius? Or is this one of those GM only features? Thanks in advance.....

I used the Coastal Lock in my 2007 and it works just fine and better yet was very easy to install! With foot on the brake you push the button and the doors lock. Simple as that. Took about twenty minutes to install and put everythng back where it belongs. The directions were very easy to read and follow. Enjoy!

This Auto Lock thing has really been bugging me. The manual says Yes and everybody else says No. I finally called Toyota and told them my dilema. I asked please tell me "Yes" or "No" can I program my Prius to have the doors auto-lock. He put me on hold and when he came back he said I have a definate answer for you . He said the Prius CAN be programmed to have the doors automatically lock but unfortunately the dealers do not know how to program that feature at this time. He did say that the dealers should know within a week or so. So it looks like I can program my prius to auto lock the doors..... as soon as the dealers figure out how to do it..

JPmorgan,
That is awesome! Thanks for sticking with this. That would be great to be able to do it as the manual states..

Thanks again,
John

I hope you get good service from Coastal E-Tech because their service could be frustrating, sometimes.
I have not dealt with them before. Just for your information only.
Hi All,
I have just picked up a 2004 UK model T-Spirit. Has anyone had any experience with using this on UK versions. I will also email Coastaletech support but from other posts I have seen it may be a while befor i get an answer!

Regards,

Phil

The 2008 Owner's Manual also said Driver and Passenger can set the Temperature seperately (like Dual Climate Control)? Is that true?!

I kind of lose fate on what the Manual said about the features we 'may' have....which was referred to the non-US Prius. Not to mention there're typos in some paragraphs too......

Keep us posted if your dealer can actually program the Auto-Lock.

Default Re: Auto door locking

I am sympathetic to the lack of auto locking doors on the prius. My wife went from a 4runner (which has auto locking doors) to the prius and until now forgot to lock the doors quite often.

I am mass producing an automatic door locking feature (for the 2004-2009 prius) that locks the doors when you initially power the prius up such as when you press the brake pedal and push the power button. It will be available via the prius chat store in the next couple of weeks. It is a plug-and-play device in that it plugs into existing channels that requires only a screwdriver for installation. It takes about 20 minutes or less to install. There are full-color instructions and I will be available for assistance if the need arises.

The value of the safety aspect of this feature makes it a worthwhile purchase. Stay tuned.
